Most of the museum is under construction. Only one exhibit is open. The paintings in the exhibit are breath-taking. It makes one wonder just how much talent the artists have been blessed with to capture the essences of the land and people. The paintings was worth it.
I’m giving the museum 3 stars, because my overall experience was such. I hoped to see and learn a little more, given that it was a bit of a drive and not walking-distance to other places. All of the captions were in French. I would’ve thought Tahitian, at least, might’ve been available, but not so. Also, the bathroom was open, but there was only one toilet available and it wouldn’t flush. The faucets were also not working, but I had hand sanitizer. Read moreWe were priveledged to visit here on our trip from Aotearoa NZ. Highly recommend visiting this beautiful exhibit! It's located only 15 minutes out of the city(Papeete) of Tahiti nui. Despite it being one large room one could easily spend a few hours (or more) here taking in all of the history. You are able to hire an audio guide that will talk you though some of the exhibits - offered in several languages. The hosts including securite were incredibly friendly, helpful and shared local knowledge with us which we really appreciated - mauruuru!
The exhibit is air conditioned and there is a small souvenir shop, a drink vending machine and toilette facilities. It's also budget friendly costing only 1000franc per adult - children visit free. If we are priveledged to visit Tahiti again we will...
Read moreThe location is awkward to get to, but it does have a nice big property with water view and plenty of free parking. Very pretty exterior. Was excited to give it a try and support a local museum.... So was shocked when I tried to buy our 2 tickets (1,000xpf each / $20USD total).... that this tourist attraction could only accept exact change in their local currency or credit card. So having brought 5,000xpf (equivalent $50USD) for our admission, they refused to admit us because we didn't have exact change. The lady manning entry didn't seem to care and couldn't be bothered much as she seemed more focused on eating her lunch. Luckily for us, the main thing we wanted to see (Captain Cook's anchor) is viewable for FREE in the parking lot. Tourists be warned if you plan to pay in...
