There are places where you ARE allowed to sit on the grass, and a café where you can get a brochure in English describing the history of the gardens. Ice creams. Drinks. Snacks, while not haute cuisine, easily beat the limp chips and saggy burgers available from this sort of outlet in England. A coffee will set you back only €1.20 so people watching in the park is better value than in town! It goes without saying that the coffee is good. For the horticulturaly inclined, the brochure says that free tours are available by arrangement in advance, which might be the only way of seeing some of the collection which seems to be off-limits to mere mortals. Read moreWhat a wonderful place situated in a large city. A lovely place to relax and break up normal city walking. There were plenty of benches to sit down and relax on to appreciate the hard work of the staff to keep the gardens clean and beautiful.
We were followed by an overly friendly peacock who just wanted some of our baguette and cheese!
To think this is free is mind-blowing as we would have happily paid to enter. A must see for anyone...
