The cave itself is lovely and there's lots of outdoor space. However, we paid to go down into the cave in the basket which is quite pricey, the staff member directed us outside and to the right to wait for our tour. When the guide came he indicated we were in the wrong place and just vaguely gestured in another direction. We went back into reception and said you told us to wait over there and the same staff member said oh no you need to wait that way and radioed someone. We had to run up the slope to get to our tour, met halfway by the guide (the signage is a bit vague and not all that clear). It was very squashed in the basket and the audioguide has very little info at all compared to the French commentary by the guides (appreciate we were in France but for the entrance fee you would expect a little more). It's not clear if you can take pictures or not and as noone else was we decided to follow their lead. You see lots of pottery in the cave that's left under the dripping water to develop a build up of mineral deposits which is really clever and very pretty, but the shop only had a few small pieces for sale that we could find which was a shame as it would be an amazing souvenir/gift and would happily pay good money. It was raining heavily on the day we visited so it was a shame we couldn't look round and appreciate the outside space a bit more. The site does have a good cafe and there is plenty of free shaded parking opposite. Just a disappointing visit really, and when we visited Padirac later in our holiday the experience there was much, much better all round and cheaper. Proumeyssac could be so...
Read moreI have visited quite some caves in my life, but this cave, Gouffre de Poumeyssac, was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Everyone who worked at the cave was very kind and happy to help. And the cave itself was very beautiful. We took the walking tour, and not the tour with the basket going down. At the start we got to see a little introduction movie about the history of the cave. The movie was quite well done and you could see they put a lot of effort into it. The movie was in French, but with headphones you could watch the movie in your own language of choice. Inside the cave you'll walk with a guide who will tell you stuff about the cave in French. If you're not fluent in French, like me, you can use an audio guide. I will not spoil the experience in the cave any further, you'll have to see it yourself, but I can tell you it was just gorgeous. Definitely a recommendation if you're ever in the...
Read moreThis was our first cave visit - so no expectation. The cave entrance is ramped and well paved. We had children who are 6, 2 and 7mths old. It’s steps all the way. Starting point was all pitch black - lil one was not too keen of the darkness. There's option for those who paid extra to be dangled down in a basket. I personally am glad we did not do that with kids. . Apparently he had to pay the same as we did for less than half the experience. At the bottom, there's some pottery that's being dropped with calcite to make it smooth n shiny! apparently all have been sold and you'd need to book and pay in advance if you like it! Nice area for picnic while kids run around the playground. I think we spend more the enjoying our picnic then in the cave...
