The restaurant did not live up to my expectations in terms of food or service. For a place that is meant to showcase mushrooms there was only one mushroom choice for starter (mushroom gazpacho) and main (stuffed mushroom). It was nice but I honestly could have made just as good at home. My partner was equally disappointed with his. Service was slow: we had reserved a table - waited for 10 minutes and then seated ourselves to the annoyance of the staff who had ignored us for that time while setting the tables - it is quite a climb up so we just wanted a seat out of the sun! One young server did about 90% of the work. Wonderful self guided tour of the mushroom farm at Le Saut aux Loups. The Champignonniere is a beautiful place to visit, taking you through all the stages of mushroom growing, deep in the limestone caves typical in this region.
Lots of very beautiful carvings in the stone and coloured lighting to highlight the scale and shapes of the caves, carved out over the centuries to build the white stone buildings that punctuate the landscape all along the Loire river.

A very interesting showcasing of the progress made in mushroom cultivation, and you can even see actual mushrooms being grown !!
