My recommendation is to go to the tourist office and buy a return ticket for the cable car for 7,5 euro, which includes also public transportation in Toulon for a day (includes also the boats that are part of public transportation: 8, 18 and 28, which you can use to go to Les Sablettes, Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer and Port de La Seyne-sur-Mer). Since I arrived at the tourist office before 10am, when the cable car opens, the guy working there told me to wait until 10, so he can call them and make sure that the cable car is running, because it depends on the weather. So I returned at the tourist office at 10, bought the ticket and then took bus 40 (unfortunately on Sunday and holidays it runs only once per hour) to the cable car station. When I got up on the mountain, I wasn't sure where the viewpoint is and decided to follow the signs to the viewpoint in the south. You can go there either by following the road or through the forest (the path through the forest is shorter, but a bit more difficult). Unfortunately, there was some fog that day and I wasn't able to get the best view, but at least I took advantage of the ticket and used the public boats to visit the other places that I mentioned above. When I returned from the mountain, there was no bus coming anytime soon and I walked back to the city (took me about 25 min). Up there is also a war memorial, which has a viewpoint, but you have to pay the entrance fee (5 euros I think) and there is also a cafe, right next to the cable car station, which...
Read moreThe Mountain Above the Sea – Mont Faron
Rising high above the harbor city of Toulon, Mont Faron isn’t just a mountain — it’s a silent guardian that has watched over the Mediterranean for centuries. But getting to its summit isn’t a climb — it’s a glide.
A bright red cable car swings gently above the rooftops and trees, lifting visitors from the busy streets to the sky. As the city shrinks below, and the sea stretches wide in every direction, the journey itself feels like a moment suspended in time.
At the top, Mont Faron offers more than breathtaking views. It's a place of history, with a memorial to the Allied landings in Provence during World War II — a reminder that even the most peaceful places have witnessed moments of courage and conflict.
But perhaps the real magic lies in standing still at the summit, watching the sun paint golden paths on the water below, and feeling for a moment like you're on top of the world — with all of Toulon quietly...
Read moreFantastic place! We would have loved to have much more time for the visit. Best advice is to drive to the top an plan for a day with walking around on all the various paths and see all what Mont Faron has to offer. And the cable wagon is possible to take from top and down and the up again if you don’t want to miss out on this. Option is also to have on driving the car to the top and rest can take the cable wagon. We only went for a short stop and took the cable wagon up, walked for 30 minutes to Point sublime which gives a fantastic panorama view. And then we went back down with the cable wagon. I would love to go back for a whole day with the family and bring a picnic bag and lots of cold drinks.
We went in mid July around 3 pm and there were almost no people, so only waiting for 10 minutes at the cable wagon.
And I don’t like heights and unstable vessels, but this cable wagon felt...
