Château de Vendôme — Attraction in Vendôme

The remains of the castle (11th - 17th century) and its Saint-Georges collegiate church evoke the power of the counts, then dukes of Bourbon-Vendôme, who rose to the throne of France with Henri IV. The medieval enclosure, whose walls are still partly visible, dates from the 12th century. The tower of Poitiers, the main tower, still dominates this old fortified device by its size. The castle was undermined by two assaults: in 1562 by the Huguenots and in 1793 by the Revolutionaries. The heart of the castral space is occupied by a very beautiful English-style park created in the 19th century (cedar from 1807 and collection of hydrangeas created by the Mouillère family, horticulturists from Vendôme), which offers a unique panorama of the city. A pleasant opportunity to relax, the park of the Château des Bourbon-Vendôme (whose ruins -CMH- date from the 12th and 15th centuries) with winding paths, following the layout of a romantic English-style park developed in the 19th century, offers also a choice panorama of the city, guided by the installation of a precise orientation table. Les vestiges du château (XIème - XVIIème siècle) et de sa collégiale Saint-Georges évoquent la puissance des comtes, puis ducs de Bourbon-Vendôme, qui se hissèrent jusqu'au trône de France avec Henri IV. L'enceinte médiévale, dont les murs sont encore en partie visibles, date du XIIème siècle. La tour de Poitiers, tour maîtresse, domine toujours par sa taille cet ancien dispositif fortifié. Le château a été mis à mal par deux assauts : en 1562 par les Huguenots et en 1793 par les Révolutionnaires. Le cœur de l'espace castral est occupé par un très beau parc à l'anglaise créé au XIXème siècle (cèdre de 1807 et collection d'hortensias crées par la famille Mouillère, horticulteurs Vendômois), qui offre un panorama unique sur la ville. Agréable occasion de détente, le parc du château des Bourbon-Vendôme (dont les ruines -CMH- sont datées des XIIe et XVe s.) aux allées sinueuses, selon un tracé de parc romantique à l'anglaise élaboré au XIXe s., offre également un panorama de choix sur la ville, guidée par l'installation d'une table précise d'orientation. O parque do castelo está aberto gratuitamente todos os dias das 10 às 21hs. Há vários espaços para estacionar o carro.
