It is overwhelming to see the magnitude of destruction men inflicted upon themselves for the cause of their leaders. The American cost to protect France and democracy in Europe is easily visualized along the roads leading here. The Germans turned the ruins of this church, a place of restoration and peace, into a fortress for destruction. It's small force of machine guns, supported by a great and lethal German artillery force, caused great casualties against several US divisions and delayed the US advance. A costly victory American Forces. It is a short drive from the Meuse-Argonne American...

The person who is running this monument walked up to us and asked if we had any questions. We just seen this big beautiful tower from a distance and had to check it out. The person gave us a full complete tour and told us about the battle and everything that happened around it. I did not know that the American Battlefield Monuments Commission has people there to teach us about these battlefields and I was so impressed. I learned more at this monument than I learned in most of my schooling history classes. Fantastic place and I learned a lot....

I first stumbled upon this memorial by accident a few years ago. I have since visited every time I’ve been in the area. You can see the memorial from miles away so it is very easy to find. The church, graveyard and battery behind it are well worth looking round too.

The views from the top are incredible even if it’s a rainy cloudy day. It is impressive to see all the scars of war still mark the land, but it does help to give younger generations a sense of what happened here. The climb of stairs is worth it!!
