If you want to learn about WWI from an expert and have a relaxing time with great food and company, this is the place you need to be. Maarten and Didi Otte are phenomenal hosts and I can recommend this small hotel highly.||My wife and I spent several days at the B+B in June 2025 and it was the highlight of our trip to Flanders and Northern France. The small hotel is extremely comfortable and situated in a quiet town in a beautiful countryside but the past is never far away in this part of the world.||Maarten has encyclopedic knowledge of WW1 and we learned a tremendous amount in our day long tour of the area. I strongly advise taking a private tour with him. He can customize the tour on your particular area of interest and we were able to retrace the steps of my great uncle who fought and was wounded in the Montfaucon battlefield in Sept 1918. He took us to a lot of out of the way places that you would never see on a standard tour. Maarten has created an excellent and surprisingly extensive museum that will add to your knowledge of the conflict.||Didi is a gracious host and will make you feel right at home. Her home cooked meals, both dinner and breakfast, were delicious and a real treat. My wife felt she should write a cookbook but until that is published, you will have to make a visit to the 14-18 Meuse-Argonne to experience...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay with Didi and Maarten in September, 2016. They have a quiet and cozy place in a small village in eastern France, right in the heart of the Meuse-Argonne battle from WWI. Maarten is the local WWI historian and, for a nominal fee, will guide you all around the Meuse-Argonne and St. Mihiel fronts.
Didi is an excellent cook! You won't regret staying for dinner as well as breakfast. Who can resist fresh eggs from the chickens out back? Both Didi and Maarten are very warm and welcoming hosts and speak fluent Dutch, French, and English.
They also have a wonderful museum next door; small, but packed full of artifacts that are well displayed and interpreted.
If you're looking for a place to stay while you visit the American fronts of WWI or just want a quiet place in the French countryside, you won't go wrong with...
Read moreI wish that I could give more stars than five! My husband and I stayed there last night. The photos do not do it justice. The hotel is sparkling clean and the rooms and attached bathrooms are large. Didi and Maarten are superb hosts, and we very much enjoyed Didi’s dinner that she prepared for us, in addition to the breakfast that she made. Her kindness, courtesy and warmth made our stay very special. Both she and her husband speak excellent Dutch, English, French and German. Maarten is a fountain of wisdom about the area, and gave my husband a tour of the town and sites of various battles. He has assembled a wonderful museum of WWI items, all well documented and displayed beautifully. If you’re a history buff or want a place to stay hosted in a nice village with outstanding hosts, look no farther. We were so pleased...
