On the third day of my Georgian adventure, I had the pleasure of visiting this captivating catchment area. The panoramic view of the Zhinvali Dam is truly a sight to behold – a scenic phenomenon that offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, considering the dam's construction during the Soviet Union era.

This spot is not only a visual delight but also a lively hub of activity. The area features an array of souvenir shops and quaint restaurants that add to its charm. One delightful feature was the assortment of photo frames strategically placed along the front side, offering picturesque setups to capture the beauty of the dam. It’s a perfect spot for some unique and memorable photos.

However, it's worth noting that there is a small fee required to access these charming photo setups. Despite that, the experience is well worth it. The combination of natural splendor and a touch of nostalgic history makes this a must-visit stop for anyone exploring Georgia.

Such a gorgeous stop on the way to Kazbegi! The reservoir is absolutely stunning—the water changes color with the light, from deep turquoise to shimmering blue. Surrounded by green hills, it really feels like a postcard come to life. It is the 1st stop usually people make in day trips

There are a few stalls and a small bazar nearby where you can grab snacks, local food, or even browse clothes and souvenirs. If you want a fun memory, the little photo booths with traditional costumes are there too (around 5 GEL per photo i guess).

One thing to keep in mind: the best time to enjoy the view is early morning or late afternoon. Midday sun can be too harsh and makes photos less magical, while softer light brings out the reservoir’s true beauty.

It’s not a long stop, but definitely worth pulling over for a break, some fresh air, and a few amazing shots. A simple but unforgettable place along the Georgian...
