It's amazing to see people enjoy captivated animals in 2022. The concept of zoos was maybe okay centuries ago, because we people simply didn't know better. If you look up, you can find a lot of material where animals in zoos evolve behavior pattern such as running in circles or bea_ting their heads against walls because they are simply bored. Monkeys as gorillas often hide themselves or turn around because they feel ashamed being looked at. Tigers have up to a 60 mile territory to roam, they could never reach this in a cage. There is no way you can sell captivity as a species-appropriate keeping because it can never be as free as freedom. (I mean, honestly, how could it technically be? You wouldn’t want to spend the rest of your life in your living room right?)
And this is nothing against the owners. I'm pretty sure that they love their animals- But at the end of the day it's a Business. And combining living creatures and a model that is about making money yet talk about fairness and love... seems kinda weird to me.
If you really want to support animals and still see/visit them i can recommend animal sanctuaries. There is also a way to become a godparent and give an animal the chance for a second life. You won't see tigers and lions but so what? We will never see real dinosaurs anymore and I know a lot of kids whose favourite animals are dinos yet they have never seen any alive. And for those who say (maybe to convince themselves because the cognitive dissonance kicks in or they really didn't know better) that there is a learning in visiting zoos: Is there really one? What do you learn in zoos except for how animals should not be kept? Because the reality looks like this: You spend maybe 3-5 minutes in front of a cage, take maybe 3-4 photos and go to the next one. Then eat a bratwurst with french fries and go home. Maybe you will never even rewatch those photos. So what did we learn? If it would be really about the learning aspect we could just watch some good documentaries. Also you don't have to see an animal in real life to love it. It's actually the opposite: You start loving animals when you get information about them. When you hear things about them, read articles or watch documentaries, think "how cool is that" when you find out another fact. Not when you see them behind cages.

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Augsburg Zoo, and I must say that it was a truly enjoyable experience. The first thing that struck me was the impeccable maintenance of the zoo. The pathways were clean and well-maintained, and the entire facility had a welcoming atmosphere.
One of the highlights of Augsburg Zoo was undoubtedly the care and attention given to the animals. Most of the animals appeared to be happy and healthy, which is a testament to the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure their well-being. It was heartwarming to see them in their habitats, engaging in natural behaviors and interacting with each other.
The zoo offers a wide variety of animal species, ranging from local fauna to exotic creatures from around the world. This diversity was particularly appealing, as it provided a great educational opportunity for children to learn about different species and their habitats. It was a joy to see the fascination in their eyes as they observed these magnificent animals up close.
However, I did notice that a few of the exotic animals seemed slightly agitated during my visit. While this was a minor concern, I sincerely hope that the zoo's dedicated team is working to alleviate any distress they may be experiencing. It's essential to prioritize the well-being and comfort of all the animals, and I trust that the zoo is taking appropriate measures to address any issues.
The zoo's amenities were also worth mentioning. There were well-placed seating areas and picnic spots throughout the park, providing ample opportunities for families to take a break and enjoy their surroundings. Additionally, the availability of refreshments and snacks made it convenient for visitors to stay energized during their visit.
Overall, Augsburg Zoo is a fantastic place to spend a day with the family. The well-maintained facilities, happy and healthy animals, and the educational experiences it offers make it a great choice for both young and old. While there were a few animals that appeared agitated, I believe the zoo is committed to their welfare. I wholeheartedly recommend Augsburg Zoo for a memorable and enriching outing for the...
Read moreWe first went there on a Public holiday and it was impossible. There was no parking, the cue was very very long. I guess one could wait upto two hours. We decided to go back home and reschedule.
We went back on a Thursday and it was worth it.
Entrance fee was 14 euros for adults.
We parked close to the entrance and there was no cue at all. We arrived one at 16:00 and the zoo closes at 17:00 thus we had to rush. It was around feeding time and it was interesting.
We enjoyed the walk around the zoo and the animals were looking healthy and well taken care of.
Some few walk ways were closed and the restaurant too. We could not see some animals.
The play ground is huge and for all age groups though we could not use it due to time.
Some animals were already indoor due to the changing weather example giraffe, zebra and Elephant
Overall it was a good experience and we shall go...
