You want to see a tourist attraction.. then this is the right place to come to. Huge parking space with an important documentation centre. Parking for the whole day is around €5 per day but this is a minor expense compared with what comes if you want up. The way up is only possible by bus and there are around 4-8 per hour (estimated), depending on season and demand. A 10 minute journey up and the same down. You are allocated a bus when you buy the ticket. You might encounter some rustic Bavarian 'hospitality or charme' by the people in the ticket office or the drivers. As annoying as this can be, try to take it as part of the experience if you can. While there's no entry to be paid for the Kehlsteinhaus the journeys will set you back €28 per adult person (October 22)! That's crazy frankly speaking but when there is no alternative then well, literally there's nothing else. From the upper park deck to the house you can either walk (20 minutes) or you take the posh looking elevator inside the mountain. The Kehlsteinhaus is run as a mountain restaurant. Given the exposed site, the huge amount of people and the limited choice or competition the prices are very reasonable. The views are gorgeous in any direction. One can see Salzburg in one side and the Königssee on the other. A mountain trail is starting at one end to the higher mountains next to it. After approximately 2 hours you can take the bus back to the lower parking site. If you want to extend the time at the house you can arrange this with the bus supervisors without problems. On the sunny day and as a one-off experience it was worth it but there are plenty of other mountains around that come with the same view (some with a food offer as well) but without the cost (but then also without...
Read moreDetailed journey till the Top. Pro tip: If you are planning a hike after reaching the Eagles nest you can grab some food from shops around Berchtesgaden station. There is only one restaurant and one stall selling any edibles at the 'Nest'. Step 1: Take the 838 bus from Berchtesgaden station to the Obersalzberg Documentation centre. It's not the last stop so remember to get down 😆! Its a 5 Euro ticket(can buy on bus) or you can use the Kurkarte for free(given by hotel you stay in Berchtesgaden) Unfortunately, the Documentation center was under repair (so it was closed). Step 2: Find the bus stop for RVO. Located down some stairs. The RVO849 bus starts here! The ticket centre for this bus/Nest/elevator(all inc.)is located here. Around 30€ for Return. Beautiful and scenic journey till the elevator and here bus passes through many tunnels. Step 3: Bus reaches Elevator. Take the tunnel and take the infamous Golden elevator( like the dictator took) to reach the Nest. Alternatively, you can walk up by a path located 100m to the right of the tunnel (when you face it) Remember, your ticket is valid only for 2 hrs. So incase you plan to extend your stay you can change it by scanning it at the booth located at the entrance of tunnel. This is done as seats on the bus are limited.
Step4: You have reached the nest/restaurant and are ready to enjoy the view. Remember the last bus is around 1630 or...
Read moreInteresting Historical Place Inside Berchtesgaden National Park at elevation 6,017 feet, is the Eagle's Nest Teahouse, built for Adolph Hitler, over 13 months in 1937-38, for the occasion of his 50th birthday. The purpose was for social and government reasons and a retreat space. It housed a dining room/conference room, a lounge area, with a red marble fireplace gifted to Hitler by Mussolini, and one personal room, which was used as an office or study. There was also outside patio seating. It was day-use only, as it had no bedrooms. The view is still all about the height, which Hitler hated. He used it only 14 times. Today it is open for tours, reached by bus or a difficult hike. There is a restaurant which is open during the spring, summer, and fall months. Seasonal opening dates depend on the weather, as the access tunnel is close during the winter. One walks down the access tunnel (400 feet) to reach a brass lined elevator designed to look like gold. Take that up to the Teahouse. We found this to be an interesting and historical place and enjoyed our visit. Go in the morning before the clouds, fog, and moisture roll in. Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared for wind and or rain. Weather permitting, take the 5-minute climb up the hill to the cross where the view...
