A fantastic spot for a walk with your dog in Berlin! A long, scenic stroll around the lake offers a truly refreshing experience. The area is well equipped with cafés and eateries, along with plenty of spots to sit and relax with your dogs. If you’re an early riser, morning yoga sessions here are a great way to start the day.
Kudos to the Berlin Forest Department for maintaining this place so beautifully, it’s impressively clean and well kept. Other European cities could certainly take a lesson from them, as Germany’s forests and parks are consistently maintained to the highest standards.
While the lake area does get busier on weekends, most visitors are courteous, respecting each other’s space and enjoying a peaceful time. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. However, as in any public space, there’s a chance of encountering a few unpleasant experiences. Some Germans can be unexpectedly argumentative over minor dog related issues, and it’s not uncommon to witness a few Germans being overly harsh or rudely loud with their own pets. If you’re unfamiliar with this, it might be a bit unsettling. If you are a foreigner, especially a person of colour, you will experience that many Germans will stare at you without any remorse as if you are a piece of meat or an object in a zoo or museum. But this is a very common occurance across Germany and you should just ignore it.
At the end, if you focus on the positives, which far outweigh the negatives, you’re in for a delightful outing with your dog in one of Berlin’s best...
Read moreThe Jagdschloss Hunting Lodge only offered a small exhibit, and visitors needed to join a guided tour (of course, in German).
We waited for half an hour for the tour at 12 pm. Only five visitors joined this tour. When we were gathering, a staff member came to check our tickets and said we only had one ticket. Then we showed him our ticket, and he left. After we entered the lodge, the guide scanned everyone's ticket and said we only had one ticket. We showed her our two tickets, our receipt, and our annual pass cards, but she still emphasized that we only had one ticket and needed to buy another one.
Then, we started the tour. The tour lasted for one hour and was very informative, considering we only visited around six small rooms. During the tour, our 2.5-year-old didn’t like it and talked occasionally, and my wife tried her best to keep our daughter calm. However, the guide warned my wife in an unfriendly way. When the tour finished, we went to the ticket office to correct the mistake, and it turned out that we did nothing wrong. The guide didn't understand the system very well. At least, she...
Read moreGrunewald is a vast and serene forest located in the southwestern part of Berlin, offering a peaceful escape from the bustling city. Spanning over 3,000 hectares, it’s the largest green area in Berlin and a favorite destination for nature lovers, hikers, and cyclists. The forest features scenic trails, diverse wildlife, and picturesque spots like the Grunewaldsee (Grunewald Lake) and the historic Hunting Lodge Grunewald, which dates back to the 16th century.
One of the highlights of the forest is the Teufelsberg, an artificial hill built from World War II rubble, which now serves as a popular viewpoint offering panoramic views of Berlin. The area is especially beautiful during the autumn months, when the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and gold, or in winter, when snow transforms the forest into a magical landscape.
Whether you’re looking for outdoor activities or simply a quiet retreat, Grunewald is an ideal destination for a day...
