After trying quite a few Molitor wines in the past we decided to pay them a visit. I went here with one of my friends and we braved 40 km of cycling in 32 degrees temperatures to get our mouths refreshed with some of the most appraised Riesling from the region. We arrived with a lot of enthusiasm and in a dehydrated state, making quite a few jokes and showing our interest in a tasting. We bought together for almost 600 E in wine but still have mixed feelings about how we were treated. Let’s say humour has no place in the vocabulary of the staff who are trying to guide you through the tasting. It all felt robotic and business transactional orientated.. Deutsche grundlichkeit?.. You can try around 8 wines for 20 euros, literally this means one small sip of each bottle in a huge glass… scarce. We chose to taste a high level pinot noir at some point, after having tasted 2. I asked why there was no fruit in the wine and how many days it was opened. 4 days the girl said… I told the wine was oxidised and I couldn’t judge if I would spent 60+ euros a bottle on this. With plain arrogance she said this is what it’s supposed to taste like. What more can I say, I’m a customer but it shows a bit the arrogance of these people. I have 15 plus years of tasting expertise. Customer comes a long way, likes to buy and taste “striving for perfection, according to Molitor” wines and not oxidised wines. Being knowledgable is not how they like it. Soon our guide was gone, especially after we asked why they don’t use the German naming Spatburgunder instead of Pinot Noir. It’s obviously a marketing matter but we were interested to know, it was not appreciated that we criticised or asked these things it seemed. We had to insist not to pay for the tasting twice after deciding to spend almost 600 euros.. I still don’t know exactly why we did it, well the rieslings a really sublime in a way but their hospitality to strangers from beyond isn’t friendly or hospitable. It was a rather cold elite business esque experience. Next time we go to a little more low profile places. Still love the wines though but it’s definitely a bit overhyped. Giving oxidised wines to their paying customers shows the disdain where this company is at. Next time we come with a Ferrari instead of a bike, if that helps to get better service when spending hard earned money. Keep up with all the marketing materials and praise...
Read moreMy wife and I had an unforgettable wine tasting experience at the Markus Molitor Winery today, guided by the wonderful Paulina. From the moment we arrived, Paulina made us feel incredibly welcome with her warmth and kindness. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable about the wines and the winemaking process, but her genuine passion for the vineyard shines through in every explanation.
She carefully guided us through the tasting, providing insightful details about each wine while making sure we felt comfortable and engaged throughout. Her approachable manner, along with her kind and caring nature, made the experience even more special for us. We left the winery with a deeper appreciation for Mosel wines and a newfound love for the Markus Molitor label.
The beautiful setting of the winery combined with Paulina's expertise and kindness made this an exceptional experience. We highly recommend visiting Markus Molitor Winery and asking for Paulina for a truly...
Read moreLocated 15 Minutes north of Bernkastel, this Howard does tasting. Easy to get to if you have a car, parking close by to the wine manor with stairs up to the main entrance.
Highly Recommend to book ahead via email and it is 10 glass for 20euros or free if you spend 300 euros.
The interior is minimalist and modern. The list is provided with the pricing and sections of types of wines. They have Pinot noir reds which is not that common.
The wine tasting was done by Wendy, there was more a minimal, as required explanation about wine rather than a continuous speel.
The 10 wines that we had were excellent as we got to taper it to our taste and the pricing.
It was an excellent wine tasting and we enjoyed it. After wards to sober up we walked the back of the house with beautiful view of the modern high bridge and the town below with the Mosel river bend. Also worth the short walk as you are surrounded with grape vines on...
