Schloß- und Burgruine Birkenfeld an der Nahe nicht weit von der Grenze zum Saarland wurde erstmals 1293 erwähnt und gehörte zur hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim. 1584 -1600 wird sie zum Regierungssitz von Pfalzgraf Karl dem I. 1806 wird Schloß und Hofgut an einen Pariser Händler verkauft. dieser versteigert alle Gebäude und Ländereien an Birkenfelder Bürger die sich die umfangreichen Baumaßnahmen nicht leisten können und somit verfällt Burg und Schloß... Es ist eine sehr schöne Burganlage die zum Verweilen und Wandern einlädt...
