Der heutige Endhaltepunkt „Haus Scheppen" war nicht immer die Endstation der Hespertalbahn. Ursprünglich wurde das Gleis -hinter dem Prellbock- mittels einer Brücke weiter über die „Poertingsiepenstraße" zum Bahnhof der Zeche Pörtingssiepen geführt, der heute ein Parkplatz ist. Somit war die Direktverbindung von Kupferdreh zur Zeche gegeben. Bevor es die Brücke gab, musste der Zug ca. 200 m vor dem Endhaltepunkt „Haus Scheppen" einen Schwenk nach links machen, den schon seit 1857 existierenden Weg durch den in den Fels gehauenen Einschnitt -heute Wanderweg- nehmen und den Zug rückwärts in den Zechenbahnhof schieben. Mit der Stilllegung der Zeche Pörtingssiepen wurden die für den Kohleabbau, Kalkstein- und Bergmanntransport benötigten Bahntrassen als Wander- und Radwege hergerichtet. Im Jahr 1976 errichtete der Verein "Hespertalbahn e.V." den Endhalte-punkt „Haus Scheppen" und baute dort einen Bahnsteig. Heute stellt die Hespertalbahn eine historisch interessante Attraktion dar. Sie wird jeden zweiten Sonntag im Monat (Mai-September) von Eisenbahnfreunden weiter betrieben und nimmt gerne Fahrgäste laut Fahrplan mit. Der Haltepunkt ist nach dem alten Lehngut "Haus Scheppen", dem heutigem Bau- und Bodendenkmal, benannt. "Die von Scheppens" (von den Schiffen) waren bereits im 14. Jh. Lehnsnehmer des Hauses. Hier ist eine der Endhaltestellen der Hespertalbahn. Die Bahn fährt entlang des Ruhrufers. Dieses Jahr gibt es noch die Nikolausfahrt. Der Museumsverein ist bemüht so viele Fahrten wie möglich anzubieten. Mal geht es mit der Dampflok durchs Ruhrtal, mal mit der Diesellok. Von hier oben hat man einen guten Blick auf den Baldeney See. Parkplätze gibt es in der Nähe und es sind keine 500 m bergauf. Ein Spaß für die Kinder, die auf dem Baldeneysee viel sehen können.
