Seems like a lovely castle with huge and beautiful stone walls speeding around as long as the eye can see. I have come to visit this lovely building on a relatively nice day with a plan to explore it and marvel its beauty as well as the engineering knowledge of the masons, carpenters, architects and all of those that have worked on it but I was stop in my attention. After going all around the castle I was confronted with one entrance that was locked and with no notice displayed as to why be that the case or when it may be opened. How difficult was to put a notice especially knowing that the building should be opened on the hours I have came to visit. I was there together with my significant other at high noon. Because all of the facts I have stated I am giving this location, the one star grade, first ever for me. This castle does not deserve this grade as it is a magnificent building but not putting a simple notice as to why the castle is closed in the time it is and not giving me an explanation as to why was my trip to...
Read moreA well maintained castle ruins 5-10min walk uphill from the town. There will be a €3.50 adult and/or €2 child entrance fee. The ticket counter also sells booklets, snacks and provides a clean bathroom for use.
Overall the sightseeing and walk through the castle takes around 30 minutes to an hour. There are many view points and places to hang around. Only wish they gave a little more detailed descriptions of the areas of the castle. It was fun exploring the rooms and corridors but I wish they were well lit, especially going up the stairs of the tower.
Obviously if it is your first time, do climb up the tower. It will be a few flights of stairs but the view is decent, overlooking the entire town and mountain range. You can even spot a little skyline view of Frankfurt. I do enjoy coming here, the grounds are spread out and nice for an afternoon stroll or walking the dog. Last admission to the castle is 4.30pm before...
Read moreTook a path from the train station in Königstein, up hill which took us about 25 min. On the way back we waked through the old Town which was quite nice. The fortification itself is relatively well preserved and one can easily identify the components and parts. There isn't much in the way of material to educate you about the structure but if you feel inclined their website provides lots of interesting information.Entry is inexpensive and as a highlight, you are able to climb the still standing hight tower for a sincerely view. Definitely worth visiting alone or as part of the 3 castle hike (Kronberg castle, Falkenstein castle & Königstein castle). One should account for a full day for that hike, which is...
