This is a beautiful and historic castle with great views of the surrounding valley. There are signs with information about the history throughout. Visiting the castle is free.
There is a nice restaurant and a seasonal "snack shack." There are two museums with the castle, which charge admission. One details the history of the music industry and culture of the area. Most of the information was only in German. There is an interactive area with some drums and music making toys. The other museum, the Geo one, is full of fossils and information about the geologic history of the area. There is a workshop on site that cleans and preps fossils. This museum is very modern and all the displays have English translations.
The castle is stroller and wheelchair friendly, though some places are more rugged. Lots of pathways to explore. There is a small playground near the...
Read moreCan you say delicious (and gorgeous)?? I visited the restaurant at Burg Lichtenberg over the weekend at the recommendation of my date. For dinner I had the fillet - it has half of a pear and cheese on top, which made for an amazing flavor combination! My date tried one of the specials - Wild boar. I can't recall what the sauce was called, but again, so good! We also ordered a bottle of wine to the table. Everything was presented so beautifully and the staff were very friendly and professional. After dinner we climbed to the top of the tower to watch the end of sunset and enjoy live music from a group that happened to be holding a "jam session" that evening. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area! Also the dress code is very relaxed. There were guests wearing casual clothing and guests dressed up, so...
Read moretl;dr - Very beautiful, fun to explore for the whole family, those with wheelchairs/disability will have a little trouble getting around.
Beautiful castle! We visited during the winter, so all the restaurants and most of the museums were closed, but don't let that stop you from a visit. The ruins are lovely to explore and a fairly easy walk, even for the little ones.
Lots of the info is in English and staff was friendly. Plenty of easy access parking as well. Parking and bathrooms (located near the entrance) were free.
I would say the only downside was lack of ramps. I came with a baby in a stroller and had to find creative ways to get around. It was fine for us, but the disability access during the off-season (lifts weren't in use) can make it a bit difficult to get around. Something to...
