Burg Hunolstein — Attraction in Morbach

We are very fond of this place. You can stretch your imagination helped by the very good text and images on the display. What remains is pleasantly-impressive, but the crowning glory is the view from the rock over the valley, especially when the cloud is below you - that is breath-taking. Clever that the fortress was built so long ago moulded into the craggy landscape. This is a nice ruin along with a great view of the Dhron. The battlements are partially obscured since the town of Hunolstein was built directly into the walls. There's a guesthouse here at the castle and a farm-cafe about ten minutes walk away.

Eine schöne kleine gepflegte Burganlage, ehemaliges Schloss deren wahre Größe man aber anhand der noch vorhanden Mauerreste gut erkennen kann. Die um 1190 errichtet Burg wurde nach der Zerstörung 1522 vom Sickingen Franz, wahrscheinlich aus Wut mangels Erfolg, Schlossähnlich wieder aufgebaut. 1689 wurde sie dann endgültig zerstört. Seit 1979 werden umfangreiche Erhaltungsmassnahmen durchgeführt was uns auch heute 2022 ermöglicht Geschichte und Baukunst zu erleben.
