Jeez, this place has a fantastic view and on a clear evening you can see over 100 kilometres onto the horizon. Full of history and if you get there in the late afternoon you’ll still get a bite to eat and a loo! Otherwise it’s into the bushes if you have too.. unfortunately this is an area of customer service that is so lacking in much of Germany. The castle is well preserved and there is plenty to explore parking is ample and for hiking...

I was there with my girlfriend in 1984. We ate at the restaurant on top of the hill at the castle. The view was MAGNIFICENT!!! Fresh air, German history, lots of Old German culture, friendly people, gift shop, dungeon, restaurant and so much more. It was AWESOME!!! Come as you are, no tickets...

Jeez, this place has a fantastic view and on a clear evening you can see over 100 kilometres onto the horizon. Full of history and if you get there in the late afternoon you’ll still get a bite to eat and a loo! Otherwise it’s into the bushes if you have too.. unfortunately this is an area of customer service that is so lacking in much of Germany. The castle is well preserved and there is plenty to explore parking is ample and for hiking it’s a dream.

Die Ruine einer Burg/Renaissanceschloss. Der leicht zu verteidigende Berg war schon in der Frühgeschichte besiedelt. Im Mittelalter stand hier eine mächtige Burg, die 1553 abgebrannt wurde. Beim Wiederaufbau um 1600 waren die Verteidigungsbauten, so mächtig sie wirkten, nur noch Zierde und es entstand ein Schloss und Verwaltungssitz. Im 19. Jh. verfiel der Bau und ist bis heute teils Ruine. Ab 1971 im staatlichem Besitz wurde es teils restauriert. Ab und an gibt es Veranstaltungen (auch Hochzeitsfeiern) und es ist hier ein Biergarten. Die Burg ist gut mit Infotafeln erklärt. Die Aussicht von der Burg ist grandios. Umgekehrt sieht man die Burg auch schon von weitem. Parkplätze gibt es gleich bei der Burg oder auf halben Wege (mit dann etwa 15 Minuten Gehzeit).
