Schloss Schwarzburg, Zeughaus — Attraction in Schwarzatal

I have to admit the view onto the ensemble from the distance is more impressive than being directly there. The Zeughaus (armoury) has some fascinating exhibits, but sadly one can often not get close enough to admire them due to security (and photos are not allowed, which doesn't help). It is nevertheless worth a visit. The "Schloss" building is in a dire state and due to ongoing building works (if one can call it that) it is off-limits (not that I would want to get near the ruin-state anyway). The "Kaisersaal" and the building is worth going, especially if you are lucky - as I was - to have en extremely knowledgable person there who is happy to become your unofficial guide through the building.

Overall, it is an interesting complex and its history is fascinating, but considering how many other castles/palaces there are in the region, it will never become my favourite (apart from the views from it and onto it).

Car parking: well, it appears that the town council has realised there is money to be made from tourism...so charge you for it :-( not a very sensible...

Schöne Schlossanlage die auf einem Bergrücken erbaut wurde. Leider sind viele Gebäude nicht zugänglich und in keinem guten Zustand. Dennoch lohnt sich ein Besuch. Der Kaisersaal und der hintere Teil der Schlossanlage mit der Park und Remise sind gut erhalten. Eintritt kostet 3 Euro, die wie wir finden, gut investiert sind. In diesem Schloss wurde der Text der Demokratie 1919 erschaffen.

Beautiful castle complex built on a ridge. Unfortunately, many buildings are not accessible and are not in good condition. Nevertheless, it is worth a visit. The imperial hall and the rear part of the castle with the park and coach house are well preserved. Admission costs 3 euros, which we think are well invested. In this castle the text of democracy was created in 1919.

Wir verfolgen die Entwicklung am Schwarzburger Schloss seit einigen Jahren aus der Sicht des Kurzurlaubers. Die herausragende Lage des Ortes wurde ihm in der NS-Zeit zum Verhängnis, so wie zu Zeiten der letzten Fürsten wird es nie wieder erstrahlen. Ein Highlight der jüngsten Vergangenheit ist der Wiederaufbau des Torhauses und nach umfangreicher Sanierung des Zeughauses, der Wiedereinzug der historischen Waffensammlung. Die Waffensammlung ist weitgehend im original erhalten, viele Exponate haben eine spannende Geschichte. Wer im Schwarzatal unterwegs ist, sollte sich unbedingt für eine der stündlichen Führungen im Museum anmelden.
