SUMMARY: A 20-30 minute walk from the parking lot near Martinskapelle on mostly-stroller-friendly trails will bring you to this beautiful playful area consisting of moss-covered boulders that kids of all ages will enjoy climbing under and onto.
I came here with my three kids ages 6, 4, and 2 on an August Sunday afternoon. I parked at the parking lot in front of Hohengasthaus and followed path signs and used Google Maps to get to Gunterfelsen; my younger two children were in my double BOB jogging stroller and my 6 year old walked. We asked for directions several times, and without that we would certainly have gotten lost despite using GPS - the signs get less detailed the closer you get to the destination. The path was mostly stroller friendly, but I had some minor difficulties along the way and had to leave the stroller about 100 meters away from the actual destination due to tree roots. We took our picnic and walked the rest of the way. My kids LOVED climbing on top of the rocks, jumping from rock to rock, crawling beneath the rocks, etc. The largest boulder is certainly the most impressive, but there are more rocks to climb, some even with cave like features, behind it. We picnicked on one of the lower rocks and my kids played on and off for 1-1.5 hours. The walk back was much quicker since we knew are way and is more downhill, not that I remember the way THERE being very uphill. We finished the trip with a visit to the Kinderspielplatz an der Bregquelle and Source of the Breg river. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon, and I highly recommend making a visit here if you're...
