Ravenna Gorge (Ravennaschlucht) is a captivating destination in Germany's Black Forest, offering a blend of natural beauty and historical significance.

Nature and Hiking: The gorge features a scenic 8 km trail that winds alongside cascading waterfalls and through lush forests. The path is well-marked and includes several wooden bridges, making it accessible for most hikers. However, due to some steep and uneven sections, it's advisable to wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for a moderate hike.

Historical Highlights: Along the trail, visitors can explore the oldest chapel in the Black Forest and view the area's largest cuckoo clock. These landmarks add a cultural dimension to the natural experience, providing insights into the region's heritage.

Ravenna Bridge: A notable feature of the gorge is the Ravenna Bridge, a 58-meter-high railway viaduct constructed in the 1920s. This impressive structure spans the gorge and is a popular spot for photography.

Seasonal Attraction: During the Advent season, the area beneath the Ravenna Bridge transforms into a unique Christmas market. The market's illuminated stalls set against the backdrop of the viaduct create a magical atmosphere, attracting visitors from near and far.

Accessibility: The gorge is easily reachable by train from Freiburg, with the trailhead located near the Hinterzarten station. This makes it a convenient day trip for those staying in the city.

Overall, Ravenna Gorge offers a rewarding experience for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Whether you're hiking through its serene landscapes or visiting during the festive season, it's a destination that leaves a...

RAVENNA Bridge and hike offers a picturesque and moderately challenging experience. This hike is known for its stunning views, historical significance, and natural beauty.

Highlights of the Ravenna Bridge Hike:

Ravenna Bridge (Ravennabrücke): The hike features the impressive Ravenna Bridge, a railway viaduct that spans the Ravenna Gorge.

Ravenna Gorge (Ravennaschlucht): The trail takes you through the scenic Ravenna Gorge, a narrow side valley of the Höllental. The gorge is famous for its waterfalls and lush greenery, making it a beautiful spot for nature lovers.

Trail Details: The hike is a 4-mile loop with an elevation gain of about 728 feet. It is considered moderately challenging and takes around 1 hour and 54 minutes to complete. The trail is well-marked and suitable for both hiking and mountain biking. However, taking your MTB down some steep steps can be challenging and more challenging for eMTBs. So, I'd suggest to park it mid-way, lock it and continue on foot.

Family-Friendly: Despite some steep sections, the trail is family-friendly and can be enjoyable for children.

Tips for the Hike: Footwear: Wear sturdy hiking boots, especially if you plan to hike after rain.

Snacks and Water: Bring enough water and safety.

The Ravenna Bridge hike is a wonderful way to explore the natural beauty and historical charm of the...

What a lovely hike! We did the loop from Hinterzarten to the gorge via Löffeltal (mainly downhill), spent a little time near the Cuckoo Clocks (a small rest area with some hotels and restaurants right in the middle of the loop), then walked through the gorge and back to Hinterzarten (mostly uphill). We really enjoyed the peaceful walk to the gorge with SO much greenery and neat little historical structures along the way. Ravenna itself is gorge-eous (yeah, I said it) and an easy-to-moderate hike through with lots of small waterfalls and other picturesque scenery. Then coming out of the gorge and walking back to Hinterzarten is like walking through a landscape painting. Everything is so green and refreshing. I recommend bringing a small snack because the whole loop takes 2-3 hours, but you can also stop in the small area halfway to sit and nosh on some schnitzel and admire the Cuckoo...
