Münster St. Maria und Markus — Attraction in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Konstanz

A truly impressive place! The Romanesque cathedral of St. Maria und Markus in Reichenau left me deeply impressed — its massive architecture and calm, timeless atmosphere reflect the monastery’s early medieval origins. Founded in the 8th century and later expanded in the 11th century, it’s one of the key sites of the Reichenau Monastic Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside, you can still sense the spiritual and artistic importance this place once held. After visiting the church, I really enjoyed strolling through the beautiful herbal garden nearby — a peaceful and fragrant reminder of the monks’ traditional healing knowledge. It's difficult to understand how this place achieved world ranking relevance as a UNESCO cultural heritage site. It's a big church with land around it, and buildings around it. We visited specifically to view the cloister garden which has a noteworthy historical ground plan, but as you can see in the photo, they're 'renovating' it. Maybe it'll remain loyal to its origins. Monströs anmutende „Klang-Installation“ zum Austreiben jeglicher Andacht. Vollkommen instinkt- und respektlos gegenüber weit angereisten Besuchern, die durchaus erwarten können und dürfen, wenigstens für einen Moment hier in die authentische Atmosphäre einer mittelalterlichen Klosterkirche in Stille eintauchen zu können. Vergessen Sie’s! Das Gegenteil dessen bekommen Sie hier geboten: Man denkt unweigerlich an eine Dauerbeschallung (Bum – Bum – Bum - Bass – Bass – Bass!!!!) am Ballermann o.ä. Offenbar ist dies beabsichtigt und man scheint hier eine bestimmte Klientel ansprechen und gleichzeitig andächtige Menschen oder Kulturinteressierte gezielt vertreiben zu wollen. Mit einem sakralen Umfeld hat diese Atmosphäre meiner Ansicht nach nichts mehr zu tun. Wir fühlten uns ….
