Schmetterlingshaus – Insel Mainau: A Tropical Butterfly Paradise & More
Nestled within the breathtaking Insel Mainau, the Schmetterlingshaus is a true gem for nature lovers. As one of the largest butterfly houses in Germany, it offers visitors a magical escape into a tropical world, where vibrant butterflies flutter freely in a lush, carefully maintained environment.
A Tropical Haven Upon entering, guests are immediately transported into a humid, warm paradise, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 30°C and a humidity level of 90%. This controlled climate mimics the natural habitats of the butterflies, ensuring their well-being and allowing visitors to observe them in an environment that feels truly authentic.
A Diverse Collection of Butterflies The Schmetterlingshaus is home to up to 120 different species from South and Central America, Africa, and Asia. These delicate creatures, with their dazzling colors and intricate wing patterns, create a mesmerizing spectacle as they glide through the air. Some butterflies are bred on-site, while others are sourced from specialized farms worldwide, ensuring a continuous cycle of life within the house.
An Educational Experience One of the most fascinating aspects of the Schmetterlingshaus is the opportunity to witness the complete life cycle of a butterfly. Visitors can observe eggs, caterpillars, pupae, and fully developed butterflies, gaining a deeper appreciation for the delicate transformation process. Informative displays and knowledgeable staff enhance the experience, making it both educational and enchanting.

Read moreTourist trap! Ticket is 26,50€ (discount price), parking not included. For what? A park with nothing outstanding. There are thousands of parks across Europe that are mostly free. There is a glass house and we were relieved to finally see something interesting. What a disappointment inside: very fake set up for tourists to make pictures, and a restaurant in the glass house! They said there is a interesting farm, but all you can see is a couple of goats, rabbits, chickens, and sheep. That’s all. Unless you live in the desert, I can’t believe thousands of people gave a good review. Total tourist trap. What a waste of...

There are many green and free areas nearby. If you have plenty of time and money and enjoy being around lots of people, it might be worth it — otherwise, consider exploring nearby spots or simply enjoying a lake...
