Read moreAwesome suspension bridge. Much longer (and higher up from th ground) than the one I visited in Canada -the Capilano Suspension Bridge-. This one is about 360 meters long, 100 meters above the ground. I walked there with my 4 year old son, but I did hold his hand the entire time because on the sides next to the floorboards the bridge is open and while adults can't fall through it, I do think young kids can, with a little bit of misfortune and the help of gravity. I didn't dare to walk the bridge with my 2 year old daughter as she certainly does crazy things and could fall through the openings.
Next to that I didn't like that people in wheelchairs were also pushed over the bridge while foot traffic came from the other direction. You can't really get past eachother easily as the bridge is quite narrow and my son had to step all the way to the side, next to the opening in the floor. There was a small risk he could fall. In another comment I read that a person in a wheelchair encountered a baby in a stroller from the opposite side and they carried the stroller over the wheelchair. That is downright CRAZY!
Make the bridge one direction for a certain time period per day, so disabled people in wheelchairs can enjoy the bridge and the view too (as they have as much rights to it as abled-people), without blocking the bridge for opposite traffic. But this right now is somewhat dangerous if children are involved. The bridge in Canada was closed all the way to the floor, which is much safer for children. By the way, quite a few bolts of the floorboards are loose. Perhaps use some Loctite 243. :)
Parking should be closer by even though we parked in Sosberg, the parking on the south side. Maybe I'm used to American...
Read moreVisiting the Geierlay Suspension Bridge with friends was a memorable experience, especially on a Sunday. The walk leading up to the bridge gave us a chance to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and chat, though the trail did get busier as we approached the bridge. The sight of the suspension bridge, stretching across the valley, was stunning and definitely worth the anticipation.
Highlights:
Incredible Views: The panoramic views from the bridge were breathtaking, with the valley and forest below looking especially picturesque. We took our time soaking it all in and taking plenty of photos.
Exciting Adventure: Crossing the 360-meter-long bridge with friends was an exhilarating experience, especially when the wind picked up slightly and we felt the bridge sway. It added an extra thrill to the walk!
Great Group Activity: Sharing the excitement with friends made the visit even better. We were all in awe of the scenery and the unique experience of walking so high above the ground.
Minor Downsides:
Busy on Sundays: As expected for a weekend, the bridge was a bit crowded, which made it hard to fully appreciate the peacefulness. But it also meant a lively atmosphere with other hikers and visitors.
Parking Challenge: Finding parking wasn't too difficult, but we did have to pay a fee and walk a bit to reach the bridge. It’s worth noting for future visits.
Overall, it was a fantastic day out, perfect for an adventurous group looking for stunning views and a unique...
