We left our hotel at 5.45am to beat the traffic and tourists, only to find out when we arrived at 6.30am, the park doesnt open until 9.30am! Luckily one of the guides came to us and did a small tour with 9 of us at around 8AM, versus 90 people on normal opening hours.

The canopy walk was fun. For foreigners it was 60 Cedi if you just want to do the canopy walk, and we as a group opted to do another 1hr walk for another 55 Cedi. The price we're paying was like a westerner's price. We thought going to Ghana would be cheap but no, £10 for only 30mins doing the canopy walk and about £9 for the 1hr walk in the jungle.

If you want to know how we got there, we went up from Cape Coast with a trotro because it was only 7 Cedi. If you're good at bargaining, we managed to get a taxi back between 3 of us for 30 Cedi. It's no brainer we chose the taxi for only 3 Cedi extra if we're...

They rush you in and rush you out Don’t come here thinking you can look around and see birds or just hang in the park.

When you arrive you will sit and wait until it’s time to walk with your guide. You will take a VERY HARD but short hike to the canopy. I was pretty bad tbh. Then you walk like 6 canopy’s in a circle and you gotta RUSH! No u can’t stop to look or take pictures.

Then after you walk the canopy you MUST exit the entire park. There is nothing else to see or do.

They have a night time experience if you want to be in the tree house. I can’t imagine what the hike to that would be.

I’m salty I didn’t get to even sit and just look around or see the sights of the park. Really it’s not a park just a canopy / a gift shop/ and a eating canopy

Oh and the ropes on the walk...

If you are doing a day trip to Cape Coast from Accra, you will mostly likely stop off here on the way back to Accra. The canopy walk is what this park is famous for. It is not for the faint hearted but extremely safe! You will walk across a total of seven wobbly bridges to experience the rain forest from above. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry only a small bag if you must. There is a small hike to the starting point. There is a restaurant on site and on the day we visited, there was meat skewers being grilled on the BBQ. Grab yourself a coconut for 2 cedis on the way back down from the canopy walk. Drink it all up and then ask the man to crack it open for you so that you can eat the jelly inside. Ensure that you have the correct change for the...

It's no brainer we chose the taxi for only 3 Cedi extra if we're splitting the cost!

If you're afraid of heights not for you! If you're adventurous and want to visit a tourist attraction, thus is for you!!! I'm adventurous but a few of the 7 bridges freaked me out, as I felt as if I was going to hurl over due to my height!!! At times I was literally bending down. The bridge rocks and the boards do creak on a few bridges... I rated it a 4 star as I would've like to seen some sort of safety protocol in place. I must warn you, before you get to the bridges you climb a significant amount of steps- muddy at times. I wore a beige shoe that I now have to toss. I seen folks do it with sandals, slides and flip flops. I really do NOT advise that you attempt this without full shoes and a crossbody for smaller belongings. Overall great experience!! Alyson

The Kakum National Park is an integral Tourist site manned by the Forestry Commission. The place attracts thousands of site seers everyday, especially on Weekends and Holidays. At my Second visit recently ( March, 2024), I saw a great improvement to the facility, compared to my first in 2007. There can be additional attractions and condiments that can be added to keep visitors coming there in shorter periods. Most visitors trooping to the place comes from the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions and beyond. Such a long journey must pay off with more that a canopy walk. I believe the current management who are doing a good job will consider this in good faith. Thanks Jonathan ( +233 554234063)
