On Sunday at noon, we decided to visit the Olympus Geological History Museum. We easily found our way by following the signs leading to it, and parking was no issue – there were plenty of spots available on the street nearby. Even though we walked there, I noticed how conveniently everything was situated.

When we entered the museum, which is all on one floor, my first thought was that we would see everything in about 20 minutes. It turned out I was wrong. We were greeted by the museum's owner, George, who is not just a geologist but also a researcher with a deep passion for what he does. He shared with us that the museum is his hobby, but the story of how it all came together is best told by him when you visit.

With soothing, relaxing music playing in the background, George began to tell us about the tectonic history of the region and how it shaped the modern landscape of Greece. His storytelling was so captivating that even the 12-year-old teenager with us was listening with his mouth wide open. George didn’t just talk; he showed us various petrographic and mineral samples that made every word even more interesting.

Given the rich history of the region, we also had the chance to see fossils from the Jurassic period. What was most impressive was how George intertwined historical facts from ancient Greece with mythology and geology to show us how everything is connected.

Honestly, it’s hard to convey just how interesting and enjoyable this experience was. All I can say is that I highly recommend visiting this museum. There’s no other way to feel what we felt – you have to experience it...

I was here as a child, almost 10 years ago, back then i had no knowledge of English but the professor was so kind and made the tour interesting, i remember he knew a bit of serbian but it was not good for me as a child to understan... Now fast forward i came with my girlfriend to visit it recently, she was amused too with the collection since we both share love for geological and archeological findings. The professior didn't age a bit but his serbian improved drastically, i loved every single moment i spent there. He doesn't fail to impress us with knowledgeable facts. I love that he sells his geological finds, great souvenir to have.

Advice for everyone who wants to go: be on time! Dont come in the middle of a tour because you will ruin your experience, nevertheless you are going to have...

Great museum, a must see when you are visiting this region! The owner has a great collection which took him over 30 years to gather and of which he likes to talk and show a lot!

Expect a classroom style room, filled with cabinets of stones, bones and fossiles. In front of a whiteboard, he will tell his story, followed with a visit to a 2nd room filled with stones and more information about Greece.

His English is perfect to understand and when other people join, he will explain his story in more languages

He brings together geology, history and mythology which is very nice to hear.

It is said that the original discus used by the ancient Greeks in their Olympics was in fact a fossilized ammonite - one you can see and hold in...

Knowledgeable staff and beautiful exhibits! The museum is set up in a private house, but it doesn't make the museum less interesting at all! The son of the owner gave me a very insightful and knowledgeable tour of all the minerals that can be found near Olympus. It gives you a lot of geological background of the area and it's a great way to start touring places near Olympus Range. I'd highly recommend going there! Sadly I had to cut my visit short, because I visited the museum during a bus tour of the Olympus area. But if you do have time to spare, do yourself a favour and visit this interesting museum!
