On Sunday at noon, we decided to visit the Olympus Geological History Museum. We easily found our way by following the signs leading to it, and parking was no issue – there were plenty of spots available on the street nearby. Even though we walked there, I noticed how conveniently everything was situated.
When we entered the museum, which is all on one floor, my first thought was that we would see everything in about 20 minutes. It turned out I was wrong. We were greeted by the museum's owner, George, who is not just a geologist but also a researcher with a deep passion for what he does. He shared with us that the museum is his hobby, but the story of how it all came together is best told by him when you visit.
With soothing, relaxing music playing in the background, George began to tell us about the tectonic history of the region and how it shaped the modern landscape of Greece. His storytelling was so captivating that even the 12-year-old teenager with us was listening with his mouth wide open. George didn’t just talk; he showed us various petrographic and mineral samples that made every word even more interesting.
Given the rich history of the region, we also had the chance to see fossils from the Jurassic period. What was most impressive was how George intertwined historical facts from ancient Greece with mythology and geology to show us how everything is connected.
Honestly, it’s hard to convey just how interesting and enjoyable this experience was. All I can say is that I highly recommend visiting this museum. There’s no other way to feel what we felt – you have to experience it...

Expect a classroom style room, filled with cabinets of stones, bones and fossiles. In front of a whiteboard, he will tell his story, followed with a visit to a 2nd room filled with stones and more information about Greece.
