Folklore Museum of Kymi — Attraction in Kymi - Aliveri Anna Municipality

First of all, I want to thank the ladies from the Educational & Cultural Association of Kimi who manages the museum and they allowed me to take pictures for my blog Travel advice from a Greek (you will see my article in a few days). They were all so polite and helpful.

Certainly, it was a delightful walk to our historical roots at this well equipped 450sqm museum, which is hosting in a 3-storey neoclassical building. Overall it is a fine project.

This exquisite collection includes many silk embroideries, costumes, loom, wood carvings, candle & wine making devices, pottery, metallurgy and representations of every day's life from 1800-1930. It also has costumes from the Balkan wars and the vestments of the Saint Nektarios.

Of course, there is a portrait of the famous native doctor Papanikolaou who invented the gynecological examination test PAP.

The museum itself exists from 1981 and has about 1800 objects on display.

At the backyard there is a small theater 🎥 and as they informed us, over there, they are becoming performances 🎭.

I totally recommend to pay a visit at this fine well-organized folklore museum. It is worth it, especially if you have kids, because they will absorb this condensed knowledge of our past. Or they can watch a shadow Karagiozis performance at...

Very interesting museum! I do not know how it is works in other months but in September it is open Wednesday, Sunday and Saturday 10-30 till 14-00. You are not allowed to make pictures in there but it is lovely scene out of the balcony near the ticket 🎫 cashier :) ticket is 3 euro 💶 it has lots of interesting things but no toilet 🚽:)...

Το Λαογραφικό Μουσείο Κύμης ιδρύθηκε το 1981 από το Μορφωτικό και Εκπολιτιστικό Σύλλογο Κύμης. Είναι το μεγαλύτερο και καλύτερα οργανωμένο λαογραφικό μουσείο της Εύβοιας και ένα από τα καλύτερα στο είδος του περιφερειακά μουσεία της χώρας. Στεγάζεται σε ιδιόκτητο τριώροφο νεοκλασικό κτήριο του τέλους του 19ου αιώνα, που βρίσκεται σε κεντρικό σημείο της πόλης.Παλαιότερα ανήκε στην Εθνική Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος και φιλοξενούσε επί σειρά ετών το υποκατάστημα της Κύμης. Η συλλογή του Μουσείου, που αριθμεί περί τα 1600 αντικείμενα, απαρτίσθηκε από δωρεές των κατοίκων, οι οποίοι στήριξαν και συνεχίζουν να στηρίζουν ηθικά και υλικά την όλη προσπάθεια της ίδρυσης και λειτουργίας του Μουσείου.

Στον επάνω όροφο του Μουσείου βρίσκεται η αίθουσα των εντύπων και των φωτογραφιών της Κύμης και εκθέματα ( έγγραφα, φωτογραφίες, τιμητικά), από τη ζωή του Κυμαίου ευεργέτη της ανθρωπότητας Γ....
