Kounopetra Beach — Attraction in Lixouri Municipality

One of the beaches with red sand, but less known than Xi and not crowded. Very interesting landscape and colors, but I woudn’t come back (Kefalonia has way better beaches). Parking: small parking near the bar. 😐 P.S. If you come from Argostoli, the fastest way to get here is to take the ferry from Argostoli port to Lixouri, with your car/scooter (it’s very cheap), and then you just have a 10-15 minutes ride from Lixouri to get here. Type of beach: red sand, there is a tavern and a few umbrellas in the organized area, or you can walk and place your umbrella in the free area. There is not much space, since it’s not recommended to sit under the high cliffs (rocks can fall down). You can do some “mud” by wetting the clay rocks fallen on the beach. 🙂 Shadow: no shadow at all, it is very very hot. Clean and shallow beach with crystal clear waters. Great for non swimmers due to the depth being so very gradual, still waist high 50m out and there being no waves. If you like to snorkel, the rocks to the right are where you'll find the fish and a picturesque little boat port. If you like a stroll, then the beach has a good length. We walked about 60mins before turning back due to the heat. I highly recommend making your own healing mud pack by wetting a piece of the broken clay which you'll find along the walk. On the beach to right, 2xbeds and an umbrella are readily available for a reasonable 7€ daily fee with table service available. Sady, the one thing missing was a shower. The restaurant overlooking the beach offered great food and drink and a cracking vantage point to spot sea turtles as the sunset....

2024 end of September: It is not a regular beach - 2 meters wide sandy path, completely wet so no chance to relax on a towel. 200m long, full of death seagrass and not far away from 15m high rocks than can fall down and cause serious injuries.
