Truly Unique!
Welcome to an experience like no other….
Imagine big a hotel with total privacy and just a few guests, imagine a communal pool but exclusively for you and just a few others, imagine a restaurant you can call and they will bring everything to you. Imagine a bar where you send a WhatsApp for your drink and it just appears! Now, pick up a villa, with its own pool, complete panoramic sea view and grounds and then put it in the most idyllic location with a view to feast your eyes on. Imagine a service so personal it makes a butler and concierge look positively pedestrian. Remove all the pretentiousness and fanfare and I give you the Kymata Bohemian Beach Resort KBBR.
Nestled on the southwest coast of the island, just meters from the sea and 12 minutes from Lixouri is KBBR. Due to its geographical location, you get uninterrupted sunrise and sunsets.
KBBR is 20 minutes from Turtle Tours (Andy - separate review) 5 minutes from Vatsa Beach Restaurant & Club (Valentina - separate review) and 45 minutes from Myrtos Beach. KBBR has its own beach and access too it via the communal pool area. It’s a perfect launch pad for snorkelling expeditions and general sea swimming.
The whole place is managed by Antigone & Nick, a brother and sister team, who not only run a super operation but really should be teaching other places about the art of hospitality. They really are that good!
Ok, so onto the actual accommodation. It doesn’t really matter what I write or what pictures you see because its not even close to how fantastic and beautiful this place is. We are a large family of 4 teenage children and our Villa (No.4) was in the perfect location and with plenty of space. The private pools are a decent size too and we played many games in it with all 6 of us.
Antigone and Nick offer a kind of customer service I have never experienced. Many times I asked Antigone or Nick to book or sort something and as late as 10PM at night im texting her and she is responding and making arrangements. Nick is a fantastic cook and will pretty much make you anything you want and bring it to your villa or prepare a special meal/evening event for you at your villa or anywhere around the resort.
Nick is also very conscious about dietary requirements and will collaborate with you to suggest or offer alternatives to create a dish as close to your liking as possible. He makes a fantastic...
Read moreI'm a bit conflicted about the Kymata resort. On the surface, it's a lovely resort, with attentive staff. It's a small, personal antidote to faceless, bigger resorts.||First, the good stuff:||The sense of privacy. There are 12 villas but you never feel overlooked. We never really heard a neighbour and rarely saw people, even though they seemed fully booked.|- The view from the balcony was great, looking over the sea.|- The private pool was bigger than expected and the kids loved it.|- The few ladies who seemed to run the place were friendly and attentive. |We had a bottle of rose wine and some other things when we arrived.||The bad stuff:||- We stayed in one of the bigger buildings with a balcony - which was a free upgrade, but it wasn't as high end as the website suggests - door handles were hanging off, the ceiling fan was loose, the toilet seat was loose and would pinch your leg if you weren't careful, the sink was loose, the doors didn't fit flush and some couldn't be closed at all. Some stonework was loose around the pool. Some wooden slats were loose and rusty nails were sticking out. The frustrating thing is that these are all simple fixes that an onsite handyman could fix in a morning. I know other people mentioned it on their reviews, so it shows that the resort managers don't read or care about guest's opinions.|- Our kids got horribly bitten on the first few nights. We were given some plug in deterrents and spray and it seemed to help, but we're never experienced such bad bites. The sheets seemed clean and no bed bugs.||Honestly, it's between average and very good, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt as I think you can't go to more remote paces and expect all the fixtures and fittings at the reasonable price we paid. ||The area itself is quiet, which is good and bad. We liked it, but were glad to stay in Argostoli, which was more bustling - and our...
Read moreNightmare from start to finish. We returned to Kymata after having had a lovely stay two years ago. So much had changed! First we were not properly greeted when we arrived the only person there was the bartender who did not know which villa was ours. When we got to our first villa it had issues. Handles falling or not on doors, doors to the outside not shutting properly and ants in the bed. We had to call the manager ourselves and ask for a new villa. After two hours we got a new villa. We had to move all our belongings across ourselves and received no help. This villa also had issues. The fridge did not work, electrical sockets came out of the wall when pulling out plugs (nearly electrocuting my mum), the fan in one of the rooms looked as if it was about to fall from the ceiling, the sheets and towels were stained, one bedroom had no air conditioning just a tiny fan. But, worst of all we realised as we were going to bed that there were loads of bugs in the beds, ants and others that we don’t know what they were. None of this got fixed at the time. We had to deal with it all ourselves including moving all our food back to our old villa with the working fridge. We left the next morning as we barely slept as the place and beds simply felt disgustingly unclean. The basics were not even met. However, we must say that the cleaning lady was lovely and did offer a bit of help. She explained that the fridge had been turned off. This was not at all clear and we feel that in a 4 star resort it was simply not our job to sort out these basic issues. Don’t go there if you expect any level of attention in your stay or...
