The approach to the wide bay is curvy and in places very narrow. People can park either on the road, or in the free parking spaces of the two taverns at the eastern, textile end of the bay.
The sand is coarse, there are rubbish bins and showers at regular intervals. It is only a few minutes walk to the pure nudist area with the blue, semi-transparent umbrellas at the western end of the beach. Some guests have also covered their umbrellas to protect themselves from the strong UV radiation. There are ashtrays on many umbrellas, which apparently are also emptied. A single deckchair with umbrella costs four euros this season, to be collected on the court
On some screens there is a faded QR code, but I couldn’t get it to work. Alternatively you can also order from the cashier. The latter then does not bring the drinks in a cooler, but carrying them individually in his hand. That is why a beer is only slightly cold due to the walk in the Cretan sun. Better organisation would certainly generate more revenue here.
Conclusion: Beautiful, well-equipped beach with optimized service logistics

Read moreThe beach is well organized with minor exception - lack of toilets. The only toilets available are those in a few cafes on the western end of the beach. The southern end of the beach is reserved for nudists, although not officially. Going from there to the western end of the beach there are few sunbeds/umbrellas blocks. We went to the one with bamboo-style umbrellas and beige sunbeds, a set costs 9€. The water was a bit cold but at the end of July the temperature rose to 38 degrees and that water felt so refreshing. It was crystal clear, going deep fairly quickly, but it was ideal for snorkeling among the rocky formations. The water was full of sea world, the best I've seen so...
Read moreOne of our favorite beaches in Crete. Easy accessible from Rethymno, secluded but not wild, wonderful views towards Plakias bay. Small river with palms (like in Preveli but fewer) and picturesque rocks from west. The beach is shielded from north winds by impressive mountains that is why the sea is calm here most of the time. Even during strong north winds there is no waves (the wind itself may be bothering if too strong). Coarse sand and small pebbles are fine even without swimming shoes. The water is turquoise and crystal clear. What else? Food is very good in the taverns. They even have smoothies in the beach bar but those...
