Minos Wines of Crete Miliarakis Bros S.A. — Attraction in Municipality of Archane - Asterousia

Set inland, between sun-drenched vineyards and the rugged beauty of Crete’s mountains, this estate offers a change of pace from the island’s beaches. Visits to the vines set off every half-hour, giving guests a glimpse into the landscape and rhythm of the vineyard before returning to taste the results.

Several tasting options are available, each defined by the number of wines poured. The wines themselves are pleasant and easy to enjoy, if not especially memorable. A short food menu accompanies the tastings, including a daily special, and while I sampled little beyond it, one dish stood out: a Dakos that was quite simply the best I’ve had in Crete – refined and modern in presentation yet faithful to tradition in flavour.

The staff are welcoming, the atmosphere relaxed, and the pricing refreshingly fair for the experience. The combination of setting, hospitality and value makes the journey worthwhile. Great wines! I recommend the white ones, but red are also tasty. You watch a movie about process of making wine and olive. First - you watch a movie. Movie is in Polish language! Second - wine tasting. Third - you can buy it or not, for me the wine for whole bottle was pretty cheap. Great winery with long family tradition...

Unsure why it's showing temporarily closed, as we stopped here and had a wine tasting session, and I bought some olive oil, and olive oil soap, and lavender soap. Was very interesting watching the presentation upstairs about the history of the company, staff were very helpful...
