Οινοποιείο Νικολού — Attraction in Municipality of Kropia

We visited here for a wine tasting and tour in April 2025 with a small group (5 people). The event lasted about 2 hours.

This is a small, family operation, now in its fourth generation. I learned a lot from the proprietor, who took us on a detailed tour of their wine making process, as well as a history of the family, the vineyards, and winemaking in Greece. We learned everything from the grape varieties to the chemistry that is important in controlling the outcome of every wine.

After the tour, we had a tasting of six wines accompanied with meze pairings. Overall, Evangelos made the wine very approachable and non-pretentious. After the tasting we discussed which wines we each preferred and why, what appealed to each of us and our palates.

The shop was opened for us as we were on our way out and we discovered even more varieties of wines that we had not sampled. Reasonable prices and many choices, including dessert wines and vinegars.

My partner and I visited Nikolou in early October 2024 at the beginning of our visit to Greece, and it was such a perfect way to start the trip. It is a family run operation devoted to quality and a beautiful atmosphere to appreciate wine and the people you drink it with. Evangelos, the son, gave us a personal tour of the winery and tasting, and we received a warm welcome from father Vassilis. We learned about their innovative sparkling retsina and sampled that and other lovely wines, and an amazing tasting boards created by mother Rania. I visited Νικολού / Nikolou Winery in September 2023 with my wife. We met both father and son, as it is a family-owned and operated business. Warm welcome, instructive visit of the winery, tasty appetizers prepared by the mother, and very pleasant chat with father and son storying the history of the vineyard and evolution of the grapes. We couldn't resist picking up two bottles of our favorites from their shop, before continuing our journey to the Temple...
