Pros: This archaeological site is remarkable, Lays in a relatively large area, well maintained and if you also add the surroundings, like the view to the see or the nearby hills, this place worth a visit. Cons: We have already visited dozens of archaeological sites in Greece, but this is the only place we were treated so badly, we had the feeling we need to leave. The guards, people who are responsible for looking after visitors are somehow rude and they treated us as we were burglars. Any step we made we were under surveillance and that was really an unpleasant feeling. They approached us and have interrupted our conversation. Also we had a bad experience when I went to a distant corner of the site but still open for visitors (at least there was no sign that the area is closed for visitors) and they have started to blow their whistles and starting waving at us – without proper justification. This is a well justified and understandable desire from the state therefore the guards to protect historical sites, but this behaviour is unacceptable. Elsewhere the guards can manage to supervise visitors and protect the site without any unnecessary disruption to the guests...

Incredible unknown place with nice Artemis temple ruins and then… a beauty !! Just a 2500 years old fort which is a kind of small greek Machu Picchu, by the sea. Definitely an outstanding antique site. I still don’t understand why it’s still out of the classic touristic tours of Attiki region. You will just feel like Lord Byron discovering Greece. The walk takes around one hour. Take water and a hat during summer because it can be very hot. Very affordable entry price (5€ for adults including free guide and free fresh water, free for children). Highly recommended before the crowds discover it 😉

An ancient deme in northeast Attica, on the Euboian gulf. Excavations have brought to light the sanctuary of Nemesis - the most important sanctuary of that divinity in ancient Greece - the fortress, public buildings, remains of houses and many grave enclosures. Human activity in the area is evident as early as Neolithic times. Archaeological evidence shows that there was a sanctuary here from the beginning of the 6th century B.C. The archaic temple was destroyed by the Persians in the attack of 480-479 B.C., as were many other buildings in Attica.

This archeological site is one of the best kept secrets in Attica. It is big enough to walk around for a couple of hours and you can then go to Schinias Beach, for a nice swim. I love walking around the ruins, however be warned that in the winter months only a very small portion of it is open to visitors. Call before you go, especially in the off season!
