Karathona Beach, located near the charming town of Nafplio, is a popular and beloved destination for both locals and tourists. This crescent-shaped beach stretches for about 4 kilometers, offering a beautiful expanse of golden sand and calm, shallow waters, making it an ideal spot for families and leisurely swimmers. What to Expect The beach is well-organized with a variety of amenities to ensure a comfortable visit. You'll find numerous sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, as well as beach bars and tavernas serving refreshing drinks and delicious local food. For those who prefer a more natural setting, the numerous eucalyptus and palm trees along the coast provide ample shade. The water at Karathona is known for being clean and clear, and the sandy seabed is gentle on the feet. The shallow depth extends quite a distance from the shore, making it particularly safe for children to play and swim. As one visitor noted, "Clean sand, clean warm water, plenty of free space away from sunbeds, a few stones for about 5 meters into the water then just clean sand out further deeper. No stingy anemones as some people moaned about, no jellyfish, just great safe swimming." Another reviewer praised the family-friendly atmosphere, stating, "My girl and I visited this beach in early September and our experience was good, the waters are very quiet and clear with lot of space to park, there is a place to take a shower and also there are dressing rooms to change your clothes." Activities and Exploration Beyond sunbathing and swimming, Karathona Beach offers a range of activities. You can find facilities for water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and even windsurfing. The surrounding landscape also invites exploration. A scenic walking path connects Karathona Beach to the city of Nafplio, offering stunning views of the Argolic Gulf and the Palamidi fortress. The walk takes about 45 minutes and is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the area. For those interested in history and culture, there are four small churches located near the beach, including the picturesque Panagitsa church perched on a hill overlooking the sea. Getting There Beach is easily accessible from Nafplio. It's a short 10-minute drive, and there is a large parking area available. In the summer, a local bus service also connects the beach to the city. Overall Impression Beach is a versatile destination that caters to a wide range of visitors. Whether you're looking for a relaxing day by the sea, a fun-filled family outing, or an active day of water sports and exploration, Karathona Beach is a fantastic choice. Its beautiful scenery, convenient amenities, and welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit...

We stayed in Tolo and, since this beach is only a few kilometers away, we decided to come and check it out. In fact, from Tolo beach you could even reach it easily by renting a small boat, but we went by car.

Paralia Karathonas is a very large beach, mostly frequented by locals. We hardly saw any foreigners and almost no Italians, which made the atmosphere even more authentic. It’s equipped in the typical Greek style, with a few spots where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas if you order something. Prices are extremely reasonable: on the last Sunday of August we managed to get three umbrellas and six sunbeds in the first row for just €10 per bed.

The beach has fine sand, a gently sloping seabed, and very clean water at the right temperature. Even though it was high season, it wasn’t overcrowded and felt very pleasant. There are also a couple of restaurants behind the beach for those who prefer not to rely on the beach bars.

Among the rental spots, I recommend the one further down towards El Cuarto Beach Bar, where the atmosphere is quieter.

A beautiful, clean Blue Flag beach — definitely worth a visit if you are...

This beach is a 10-minute drive from Nafplio, or you can walk along the Palamidi Path from Nafplio. The walk along the coast is beautiful but takes about 55 minutes. We did the walk in August and it was very hot - be sure to have water with you. The beach is good - it is sandy and you can go out quite a way before it gets too deep. The water is not really wavy - ot was calm when we were visiting in August. There is lots of space. Many locals on the beach. Many people brought their own sun umbrella. There were several areas where umbrellas were available for rent - rental umbrellas were 20 euros or 40 euros depending on the quality of chair and are quite tightly packed together. There were several little places to buy drinks or water - nothing fancy. This beach is bigger than the beach in Nafphlio. We spent an enjoyable few afternoons...
