Karamitsos Winery ΚΑΡΑΜΗΤΣΟΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΣ — Attraction in Municipality of Nemea

we could barely find any info about the Nemea wine route (online or in local tourist info) but we set off from Napflio to explore. After reading about the warm welcome at Karamitsos we took a chance and turned up. What a lovely estate! Barbara was so warm and so full of information about the local varietals. All very interesting - loved the Aphrodite rose' and the Rizza 2017 red (agiorgikiti grape or St George - easier to remember!) my husband played with the resident dog and football with the young son...no language barriers there! So many wineries now offer 'formal' tours and tastings but this was much more relaxed and approachable. Can't recall the cost for tasting but it was between 10 and 15 euros. Returning from our trip to Nafplion we decided to take a small detour to the wine region of Nemea before heading back to Athens. There, we discovered this incredible winery. We were immediately greeted by the staff in such a warm & friendly manner, especially Barbara who had us experience a wine vertical of there exceptional wines. It was love at first taste! They were all exceptional, particularly "Riza" that was one that blew us away by its overall complexity and finess. Also, their sweet wine "Nike"...unbelievable complexity & explosion of flavours. We were at the Karamitsos winery for a few days ago and the experience was unique. We had a tour of the winery with the kind hostess and we got to experience the wine making journey. We enjoyed the cellar and got amazed by the amount of personal work and effort they have invested. After the tour we tasted 5 wines and a generous plate of cheese and charcuterie / bread for €20 per person. We loved the home made jam in particular. The owners wife gave us information and context about the wines and helped us chose the ones we wanted to try. The Spirit of Pink was a deligt.
