Old Sinies — Attraction in Municipality of Northern Corfu

An old abandoned village with few houses and two churches/chapels that look like they are still used on occasions. Took the road from the top of Pantokratos monestery as Google Maps suggested and rolled down to the village on the most loose, rocky road that would be even difficult to walk on. To be honest I'm surprised and relieved that the car came out in one piece and without punctures. Had to stop and move some massive rocks out of the way a few times as the car wouldn't have cleared them. Once past the village the read gets much better. The proper way there is by road from Nissaki, 90% narrow and overgrown tarmac with last few hundred meters on gravel road. In the end I was more excited about the 4x4 adventure than the...

Das "richtige" Geisterdorf auf Korfu mit alten, aber überwiegend bereits stark verfallenen Gebäude(resten).

Die Anfahrt ist, anders als in anderen Rezensionen beschrieben, auch mit einem "normalen" PKW möglich. Man kann das Auto dann am Ende der asphalierten Straße abstellen und von dort ca. 2 km (einfache Strecke) zum Dorf laufen. Bis hierhin gibt es nur zwei, drei Stellen, bei denen man aufpassen sollte. Da ist die einspurige Straße hoch von Nisaki aufgrund des potenziellen Gegenverkehrs doch "aufregender". Grundsätzlich könnte auch direkt bis unterhalb des Dorfes gefahren werden, hier muss dann bei der Schotterpiste vereinzelt nur auf ausgespülte Fahrrinnen aufgepasst werden. Ab der Stelle direkt unterhalb des Dorfes ist es dann nur noch mit einem Geländefahrzeug (Jeep, Quad) sinnig, weiterzufahren. Die Strecke führt dann wohl hoch zum Pantokrator.

Das Dorf selbst ist zwar überwiegend verfallen, aber allein aufgrund der völligen Abgeschiedenheit und damit verbunden Ruhe letztlich vielleicht sogar doch sehenswerter als das vom Massentourismus erfasste Old Peritheia.

Die Kirche wurde wohl unter anderem mit EU-Fördermitteln (?) instandgesetzt, war aber abgeschlossen. Die in einer Rezension angesprochenen Bienennester konnte ich daher nicht bestätigen, hatte aber eine einzelne von den großen Bienen umherfliegen gesehen. Zwei weitere Häuser sind noch in gut erhaltenem Zustand, aber abgeschlossen und daher möglicherweise noch in Nutzung. Bei den anderen Gebäuden stehen oft nur noch die Grundmauern und selbst diese sind teils...

Interesting place to visit - you can truly feel like stepping back in time here. It takes around an hour to walk around the ruins. The road from the Nissaki side is probably the only option for getting there by a car - although the last few kilometers are a little rough (gravel road with some rough spots), we made it up to the village with a little Kia, so probably it is doable.
