The Eleutherna Museum in Crete is a hidden gem that offers a captivating glimpse into the island's rich archaeological heritage. The museum's exhibits are meticulously curated, showcasing artifacts from the ancient city of Eleutherna with detailed explanations that bring history to life. The layout is visitor-friendly, and the staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the displays. The temporary "Picasso: Joy of Life" exhibition from a private collection is a remarkable addition. It presents a stunning array of Picasso's works, highlighting his vibrant use of color and dynamic forms. The exhibition is well-organized, providing insightful context about Picasso's influence and artistic evolution. Together, the museum and the exhibition offer a deeply enriching cultural experience, making it a must-visit destination in Crete.

Visited here on the way back from Margarites village, which was fantastic and only 15 mins away. The museum was laid out really well and contained a lot of antiquities given the size of the buildings. There's a lot of information to take in given the time periods that the museum covers. There is plenty of reading material accompanying all the exhibits and also some running videos. As you enter the museum you are greeted by a fantastic panorama of the great mountains! Entry prices were very reasonable. Only 18 euros for two adults and two children below 25. Definitely worth a visit if only to get a broader perspective on the extremely rich and long lasting history of this beautiful island.

It's a fun drive from Chania, and the day we were there, we were in the clouds. Unfortunately due to the weather, we only saw the museum and not the ruins. There's ancient pieces here not seen anywhere else. For example, the bbq rack and the skewers. They've been making kalamaki for 3500 years! Interesting to see that some tools we use today are pretty much the same as they were thousands of years ago. Worth the fun drive. Will be back to see the rest of the site.

Beautiful hidden gem of Crete. This inconspicuous museum offers broad assortment of exhibits from ancient greek artifacts, to artworks of legendary Pablo Picasso. Apart from museum, the facility offers an archeological site, showing visitors the remains of the city, that once was lying there. Early begginings of human society under your own feet gives a lot to think about, and lets us explore the customs and culture of ancient Greek civilization.

Bad experience at the Eleutherna Archeological Museum. They have only a few pieces of items exposed. Explanation only in english. Then we tried to find the outside but there is almost no indication of where to go. So we found some ancient ruins but as you can see in the pictures below it is like they don't maintain it. What it seems to me is that they are happy to take tourist money but not really keen to highlight their heritage.

Beautiful but small museum, the ticket include the visit to the VAST ancient eleufterna. Critical is the recovery of cremation of the ancient warrior that confirm the Homeric writings. The archeological evidences cover the greek dark ages (900 bc to 700 bc) thus providing a glimpse where very little was found (after the bronze age collapse).
