We are a couple with two children, we visited Olive residence in the last week of August. I didn't book online because a friend of mine was vacationing there and booked the apartment for me.
I agree on the apartment and the price, €100 a night. Anyway, I checked it on the booking and it was the same price, I didn't like the fact that I didn't get a discount on the taxes paid to booking, but I ignored it and agreed.
One day before the reservation date, I was informed that that apartment is no longer available, but that there is another one for €120 a night. I asked him for an explanation as to why it is no longer available when I reserved it. His explanation was that errors occur during the high flow season. Anyway, I complained about the price because it is unethical to make a mistake and ask me to pay more. I guarantee that this other room was much better than the first one, he didn't lower the price but I would get better quality services, BUT THEY DON'T SEND ME PHOTOS.....
After presenting the apartment to us, I realized that he had lied to me The apartment had nothing to do with the quality of the one I had seen in the photos, old furniture, unpainted walls, windows that don't close in a few words, an abandoned apartment that in no way justified the 120€ he was asking for. But these were only from a first view, if you look in detail the apartment was not cleaned, I found butcheries in the kitchen, on the couch and on the table, the trash can was full as in the kitchen and in the bathroom, the bathroom was also not cleaned you can see sign that from the previous user, the environment had a bad smell and there was dust everywhere
I had nothing to do, I couldn't find another room that night because I arrived late, and normally when you have two children you don't have much flexibility in your decision. After they cleaned the room, I stayed one night. The same night I started looking for something else because I couldn't stay there for 4 nights, I was looking in booking, meanwhile an option of olive residence comes up, and I see the same apartment but for €80 a night... Anyway, I found something else nearby, in the morning I go to announce that I will not stay there, for all the previous reasons and plus the fact that he was trying to abuse the price. His reaction was aggressive and arrogant, instead of apologizing for ruining my vacation, he demanded full payment for 4 nights, even at €120 per night, while in the...

The springs and the river walk is naturally free. You can stay on the foot path for quite some time. When it ends, you have to walk along the river bottom. It is ankles to below knee deep for quite some time, with depth variances along the way. The water is super cold near the springs that enter the river. There are a lot of rocks and stones on the bottom of the river, use of some kind of shoes/flipflops (that stay on) is recommended. The canyon is very beautiful. At points the currents are stronger but manageable. You come to a point that walking it, is not possible for children or shorter people. And you have to swim a short few meters distance. Then it becomes ankle to below knee deep again at a more open space. This is as far as i event and then turned back to go through the few meters swim part and walk back to the start. It took 1 hour and 35 minutes in total with stops to take photos and videos. I recommend taking a water bottle with you.
There is easy class 1 river rafting. It was 10€ for an adult and 5€ for under 18yrs olds. Other one with a shorter trip was 7€ per adult and x€? for kids. The pirates start at the highest point and it takes about 30 minutes till the end. They bring you back with a minibus/van to where you have your car or to the start (they have to bring the rafts back too).
There is a zipline before the acheron river. It is said to be the longest one in Greece. 15€ per adult and 10€ per under 18yr old. There was a queu to the zipline but only around 10 minutes to wait. The parking lot was absolutely packed. We left the car to the road side near it.
There's some horseback riding somewhere in the area and maybe some other activities as well but you have to find those out yourself.
There are some artisan accessories for sale around as well as waterproof cases and honey. Maybe something else too but i was not paying so much attention to those.
All in all it was a nice beautiful place with some cool easy activities. I can definitely recommend this as a place to visit. Kids and young children will most likely remember the place for a long time, if not the whole lifetime (i wish i had had some of my own with me, you...
Read moreIt is a unique experience for the entire family (we are family of 4 including 2 kids aged 7 & 9 years old). It’s walking between the arms of the nature; the fresh pristine cold water running in between your legs and the sky high mountain are hugging you from both sides right and left. You can walk it (max for 3 hours if you want), or you could use the provided sports activities (canoeing and or/rafting).
Things to bear in mind:- The water is so fresh, therefore it’s so cold. Water depth varies starts from as shallow as ankle height, goes up to your neck, but it’s gradual and can stop and go back to starting point any time. There are loads of coffee shops and restaurants across the river, so you could stop for a refresher. It’s delicious with affordable prices. Gadgets you could bring with you to enjoy an extra convenient trip but not essential! :- wetsuits (especially for kids), wearing swimming shoes (flip flops get lost with the water variable current, and it’s easier to walk with them on the rocks), mobile water proof case to enjoy taking you photos with no additional stress from getting it wet) They accept cards payments, but cash would be easier for both parties. Finally; It’s a must journey if you ever...
