A must-see for any visitor to Paros.
The museum has two parts, an inside exhibition and a vast landscaped garden with incredible models.
The inside part is filled with intricate models of various ships from local waters, each grander and more elaborate than the one before. The craftsmanship and detail is a marvel. You can also see models of windmills, water pumps, and more. They are made in a way that you can see how these inventions worked.
The landscaped garden is filled with shaded paths with grand monuments found across the Cyclades. You can find models of towers, churches, temples, windmills, chapels, and even the cliffs of Santorini. You can easily spend an hour wondering about.
What made the museum special was that it was all created by a local polymath artist. His daughter runs the museum and gave rich stories into the various parts...
Read moreThis was amazing. We just went there because we've done everything there is to do on Paros and we had one day left. I found this museum and thought it would be nice. I loved it so much, I'm so glad for the extra day we had. For only 5 euros you can see this man's life's work. His daughter will answer any questions you have. Although her English isn't the best, she tries to answer your questions as good as she can. She told us about how he started to make things as presents for his wife. And about how she wanted to put his creations in a museum. And that he sadly lost his passion to create things when his wife passed away. Everything he made is just perfect. You turn around and you are amazed every single time. The detail and the love he put in his work is truly amazing. I would highly recommend...
Read moreA magical place in the south of the island! Folk art is such a celebration of life and culture and for those reasons the Museum of Cycladic Folklore was one of our favourite experiences in Greece. It was so lovely to meet Katerina (she is so very lovely and proud of this place) and hear the story of her fathers work and how this place came to be, built from love. A wonderful story and there was so many details in ever piece of work. The gardens were bigger than we thought they would be and we were constantly smiling at the artists interpretations of Greek life and the monuments, the collection of boats inside is pretty remarkable. Exceptional value to visit and a must do if you are in wonderful Paros. We left with huge smiles...
