The beach is very beautiful, stretching many kilometers and with capacity for A LOT OF people. However; this beach is NOT recommended for beginners in swimming as many have drowned there. Also; the municipality of Melissani has not provided a proper/safe parking space with allocated slots for the cars, making the experience insufferable for the visitors. Even if you get there at maximum 10.30 am, it is almost certain that you will need extra time waiting for someone to leave in order to park your car. Another solution, could be a public bus that could accommodate visitors' transportation but unfortunately that provision is also absent. Bonus tip; the Myrtos cave may be very beautiful BUT it is insafe due to landslides everywhere. I have seen many visitors camping inside the cave, which means that they are practically risking their lives. Please prioritize your safety, as the municipality will not be held responsible for any...
Read moreWhat a beautiful place. Absolutely stunning and in the all time top 3 of the most stunning beaches I've seen. 2 of them are on Kefalonia. This place is not for people that can't do a climb or are not well on their feet. It takes some effort to get there, but it's absolutely worth the work. You need to have proper shoes to go down. Like most beaches on Kefalonia, it has a rock bed which is a bit uncomfortable barefoot. The cave that you can access from the sea is out of this world. It's an adventure to swim in. The water is so blue and clear, you can look...
Read moreAmazing cave with a brine lake. There's no path around it that I saw, so the way to see it it on a rowing boat which is great. The guides are knowledgeable and it doesn't seem rushed; they take you across the lake and into and around the cave. If they're in a good mood the guides might even sing for you. We only got a whistle - bad day I guess. The water is very clear and turquoise like the sea, and comes complete with eels (we didn't see any though.) It doesn't take long but there is a cafe and gift shop at the entrance. Beware of...
