One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. There are two elements important to your beach experience in this case: the nature and the man. The nature has given this beauty on the earth and dictates the weather which is very important when you visit this beach. So, before you go, check the weather forecast. You should choose a calm sunny day, without wind. Otherwise, it will be a real problem with big vawes, so swimming will be impossible. Also, the magnificent color of the water will be distorted for pictures from close distance. The water is incredibly clear. A little colder than on other beaches. There is stong underwater current, so be careful if you wish to go little further from the shore. The beach has a sandy part which transforms in pebbles near the water. There is enough place for more than 2-3000 visitors. The beach is rather big. The second important factor is the men: what has been done (or not) in order to avoid your visit becomeing a really bad memory. Car is essential. For those bike friendly, I warmly recommend using a bike if the distance alows it. The timing is not less important. If you decide to go, do it as earlyer as you can. It is the best to arrive at least at 8 to 9 o'clock in the morning. Afterwards, a big traffic jam occurs, leaving you to the mercy of organized groups of tourists for parking near the beach. The big issue here is the non organized free parking attended from hundreds of cars. The hill is very steep, so if you arrive later, you should walk uphill in the strong sun for a kilometer or more. It is a very bad and dangerous experience. There is no single police person authorized to make the situation bearable. The next issue are the unusable public toilets, so consider it in your plans. The next issue is that there is no store. Just a beach caffee, which is a tiny wooden barrack with no capacity for serving souch a crowd. It is better to have prepaired the drinks and food you will need in advance. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to rent, but you can set up your own for free. There is a shower too. All these challenges are nothing for the real beach lovers, because I am one of them, so I tried it this morning. Here is a piece of beach lovers heaven (picture of Myrthos...

Go before 10h. Better at 9h, but earlier than that is unnecessary, and thank me later:

There's no room for all the cars in the parking, then you have to park in the descending road, which is very slope and it's hard to go by walk.

For rental umbrellas, best spots are done at 10h, and it's almost full at 11h. After that I saw even people trying to bribe a rental umbrella spot, or just stand for hours in hope to someone leave, and I left at 15h and I was the first person to leave around me. If you can't reach there before 10h, bring at least your umbrella there's no scape from the sun.

Now the beach, it's easily top 10 in the world, Kefalonia is amazing, has lots of beautiful beaches, but Myrtos is something else and stand out by far from anything else, it's special indeed: 100% transparent fading to opaque turquoise, to transparent blue again.. it's magical.

Water shoes: required. I was born in a 3rd world country, used to play barefeet and losing my toe nails here and there in the streets, and trust me, it's required for me, it's pure rocks in the beach area. I noticed some "though guys for water shoes" dancing like ballerinas on the rock areas, so listen your partner and buy one.

The bar is amazing, fair prices for the location, and has a very big infrastructure, it was unexpected for me due to the far location, and maybe it was the best beach bar in the island for me, clean toilets and good showers.

Driving down there is fine, I noticed most people rely on the brakes 100% of the time, but a suggestion: use the lowest gear possible to car go naturally slow and just push the brakes when needed. I already went to way worse places where you plastic wheel cover melts due heating braking all the times in the descend, it's not the case there, it's relatively short and easy descend compared to such places I described, but just an extra layer of safety for you and your family. Just go slow, very slow and don't care at all if someone is behind you. Your life and the life of your loved ones are much more important, it will be safe if you go very slow and you will have a great time, if you are a bit afraid I cheer for you to go, I was too, just go...

A Stunning Beach with Crystal-Clear Waters

This beach is absolutely beautiful, with an unreal shade of turquoise water that takes your breath away. Its length and width are quite generous, so there’s enough space for everyone to spread out comfortably. However, parking is a different story. While there are quite a few parking spots available, they’re definitely not enough during peak hours. If you want to park close to the sea and avoid carrying umbrellas and other beach gear over a long distance, make sure to arrive early—before 10:00 AM. This is one of the most famous beaches on Kefalonia, so expect it to get very crowded as the day goes on.

The beach is well-maintained, featuring a lifeguard tower with attentive lifeguards and even outdoor showers to rinse off the saltwater. However, there are no bars, cafés, or shops on the beach itself. So, plan ahead—bring plenty of drinking water and some snacks. If you need to buy anything, you’ll have to drive back up the hill to the nearest shops.

Overall, the experience was excellent: crystal-clear water, lots of space, easy access via a paved road, and most importantly, no commercial businesses trying to charge you for every little thing—from parking to using the restroom—which is, unfortunately, common at many other beaches in Greece.

A few things to keep in mind: the beach is made up of small pebbles, not sand, and the waves can be quite strong. I visited on a calm, windless day, and the waves were still surprisingly large. I can only imagine how rough it gets when the wind picks up. If you’re not a confident swimmer—or if you don’t swim at all—it’s best not to take any chances. For families with small children, I wouldn’t recommend this beach, as you’d likely spend the entire time holding onto them...

Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia is easily one of the most breathtaking beaches in Greece and probably the entire Ionian Sea. Its trademark bright turquoise water framed by dramatic white cliffs makes it look like a postcard come to life. The pebbly shore glows under the sun, and the color of the sea shifts from light blue near the shore to deep cobalt further out, creating an incredible visual contrast that you’ll remember forever. However, it’s good to be prepared before you go. Myrtos is mostly natural and undeveloped — there are no rows of organized umbrellas or sunbeds stretching across the sand like you might find at other tourist beaches. Usually, there are no beach bars or restaurants directly on the beach, so you’ll need to bring your own drinks, snacks, and plenty of water. There’s limited shade, so an umbrella or beach tent is a good idea, especially in the strong Greek sun. The waves can get quite big here, which makes the water look even more dramatic but can also make swimming a bit challenging. The sea gets deep quickly, so it’s not always ideal for small children or less confident swimmers. Water shoes are also helpful because the beach is covered with smooth white pebbles that can be tough on bare feet. Parking is available but can fill up fast in peak season, so it’s smart to come early in the day or later in the afternoon if you want to avoid crowds. Watching the sunset here is highly recommended — the sun drops behind the cliffs, turning the whole bay golden. Overall, Myrtos Beach is perfect for visitors who appreciate stunning natural scenery and don’t mind giving up a few comforts for one of the most iconic views in Greece. Bring what you need, respect the sea, and enjoy one of nature’s masterpieces!
