This restaurant has been given 3 stars (for reasons mentioned below), however I feel it could very easily become an exceptional place to dine. Overall the food is good here but some tweaks are necessary. One of our main issues were around service. Being also a fine dining establishment in a winery, the menu would benefit from offering a tasting menu with an accompanying wine per dish in order to showcase some of their wines too. The more detailed review is below.
Detailed review. May I say that I believe there is a huge potential here to offer a first class service. We called the day before and were offered a 10pm table for two. We didn’t have any problem with that and arrived on time. When we came it was quite clear the place was full and we were the last table to be served. Again, not a problem. After a few minutes of waiting and being offered water one of the waitresses left only the wine menu on our table without saying anything. To be honest we didn’t know what to expect. Is there a set meal? A set tasting menu? It just seemed a bit bizarre as they left us for nearly 20 minutes until they actually brought the menu. The wine list was not extensive but contained a mix of local and non local wines. The menu seemed reasonable. I have to say though that I was a bit disappointed as I expected a tasting menu too accompanied with wines per dish in order to get a feel of the various wines of the winery. This was not the case. Our first dishes arrived about 45 minutes from our arrival….. We ordered a beetroot salad that was exceptional, a bao bun that was also extremely good and a steak tartar that was ok. Our wine selection was a local red wine that was on the more expensive side. It was good but in my view perhaps overpriced for what it was. Our mains were very good but our main issue here was the little amount of meat that accompanied the carbohydrate of the dish. I accept that each dish is costed appropriately but this was very little and took away from both dishes that were actually quite nice. We took a chicken dish with pasta and an orzo dish with goat/lamb. While we had our first mouthfuls we were approached by one of the staff that told us to look at the menu for desserts as the kitchen was closing. This happened twice in fact. This was a big foul. First we felt hurried. Secondly they delayed us with our starters and thirdly they offered us a table at 10. As a paying customer this was not out problem and actually they should have dealt with this on their own as it did spoil the rest of our evening. We went for a chocolate dessert that was the weakest dish. It felt quite monotonous with an overwhelming soft feel of over the counter milk chocolate. So, the service needs to be improved perhaps with a bit of training. They need to be a bit more attentive as a couple of the staff did seem rather bored to be there. Some dishes can be improved and the menu can be adapted too to promote their wines further and elevate the...
Read moreI went here with the expectation that the wine would be good. It wasn’t. It was excellent. Understanding that wine is subjective, I would put this up there at the top with Napa. I also thought that the food would be decent, I was also wrong, it was excellent as well. you wouldn’t think that the food would be at the same level as the wine but they pull it off seamlessly. The service of course was excellent. I suggest to order whatever fish they recommend. If you have kids, it’s not kids friendly, but it’s not kids unfriendly. They do have a kids menu. But as an adult, you wanna sit there and relax for a long time and take it all Lynn. As a child you want to get up within the first five minutes and go rec some thing or run around and pull on something . That said, there’s room for them to go around and play and explore. Lots to explore., If you like beer, then you’ll have to drink Heineken only. If you’re an American, you think that that sticks because Heineken is subpar in the US however, remember, you’re in Europe, close to where it’s made, and it tastes totally different. I see this from my friend who doesn’t drink wine and thought he would suffer all night. It’s a total different taste. But focusing on the food here we sampled almost everything from the menu. And everything we had was excellent, granted, the company was good. The weather was good, and that adds to this review, however, could’ve been hailing, freezing, cold, 60 mph winds, Locusts, and the food still would’ve been absolutely amazing. Don’t miss this if you have the...
Read moreI'm a little torn here, the wines where excellent. If you love wine this is a must visit. The place was also very nice, the tasting itself wasn't great unfortunately. Person who gave the tasting could not crack a smile and just had a vibe of being there because she HAD to be there rather than wanted to be there. Coming from a wine country and having been to many many wine farms all over the world I can honestly say there's nothing better than going to a wine farm where the staff are clearly passionate about the product. Sadly this wasn't the case here. I'd recommend the wine definitely, but the experience itself was a bit of a let down (especially if you compare it with the exceptional couple at Goumas Winery further north on the island). I also feel that there could be a bit more flexibility in terms of the tasting format, not everyone want a full plate of snacks with the wine. This should be optional. Or at the very least, if you like wine, you know wine and you literally only want to taste one specific wine in particular (and obviously happy to pay for that) just make it happen (especially if the wine is on the tasting menu and already open). It's not such a big shift. Don't then force the person to have the full tasting of whatever tasting option included that wine, with its snacks etc. A little flexibility every now and again goes a long way.. so...
