I didnt buy a ticket jus needed a face mask at the time. There's a section with candles that you can light for your loved ones. After going up a slope on the inside, I saw people walking backwards to the other section đ I barely speak Spanish so I jus did the same LOOOL (When in Rome... Lol). Food n drink aren't allowed inside. There's no entrance at the front door for patrons to sit in the church it's strictly for touring other parts without disrespecting the church. I'm not sure if the bell rings every hour or opening n closing but it rang when it was about to close, loved it. There's no fee to enter but I guess since it's a church donations are always welcome but ASK (everyone's culture is different n who knows if it's an insultđ€·đŸââïž). I never did it but locals did it before/after candle lighting. No flash!! Because persons are actually praying while you visit. Be mindful n demure lol overall it was good...there wasn't a strict dress code cuz I was in a short leggings but it's a church BE MINDFUL ...I stumbled upon it n they welcomed me (hence d leggings) n last but not least I'm BLACK, FULL BLACK, NOT TO BE MISTAKEN AS EVEN LIGHT SKIN...DARK CHOCOLATE VIBES...they weren't racist towards me...I was treated kindly with my translator on hand I wasn't treated like a rare specimen either..so it felt like jus a visit to a regular place...btw this wasn't a tour I didn't have a tour guide it was jus me so maybe there are other details to it that mightve been...

Read moreI highly recommend visiting Esquipulas if youâre close by! We drove in from El Salvador (crossing the border was super easy, thatâs another post though!). We went on a Monday so it wasnât as crowded but definitely had a crowd. It was honestly a beautiful experience. We parked near the church in a paid lot. Youâll run into several markets and people selling candles. Highly recommend buying a candle or two on your way in since they donât sell them at the church. We had to go back out for our candles. The church is just stunning. We got lucky and someone who worked there gave us a quick history tour of the church which was so inspiring. Visiting Esquipulas is easy but you could see the church and shop the markets in like 2 hours. So if youâre coming from afar, try to book other things on the way to do so itâs not just that. Guatemala is beautiful so Iâm sure youâll...
