Ecological and Sports Park Cayalá — Attraction in Guatemala City

What a shame that a park which name includes the term ecological it have a river! of sewer waters openly running ~even a cascade of those toxic waters, my friends, so be careful. This disgraceful fact only confirms how the Guatemalan State and the Guatemala City government disrespects its own people, obviously the less economically favored, you can understand, who more than others uses this park, one of the few open spaces of easy access in the city to have a good walk by the nature. Avoid the downward trail to stay away from those filthy waters.

Even so, and not having too more options, the place it's nice -despite the bad odors-; people is kind, you can unleash your dog -but have to be careful, because there are plenty of other dogs walking and the risk your pet run into the filthy waters- and the personal who work there are very attentive and respectful. Great place to go for casual walks in nature as it has well maintained and wide trails in a small yet beautiful nature reserve that holds many stunning views and a diverse wildlife.

As a plus, you can also eat and organize events in the installations at the entrance.

The only downside is the eventual bad smell from the contaminated river that runs through the park.

El lugar está bonito para andar entre los árboles, subir y bajar por varios senderos, disfrutar algo de la naturaleza dentro de la ciudad. En la parte baja se puede ver un pequeño río con aguas mas o menos limpias que no despiden mal olor, por lo menos que sea evidente; este río se pasa de un lado a otro por al menos dos puentes colgantes y uno metálico. Hay varios juegos infantiles para que los niños prueben su equilibrio y fortaleza de sus brazos. Vimos los baños con una aceptable limpieza y se vio que si hay agua en los lavamanos; en el lugar hay varias churrasqueras mesas y sillas de madera bajo los árboles o cubiertas con alguna tela y me informaron que no cobran extra por su uso. Se ve que hay una tienda pero al parecer no está muy surtida, así que mejor llevar todo lo necesario. Desearía que en los senderos hubiera aunque sea algunos troncos donde uno pueda sentarse un momento. El lugar lo sentimos seguro; seguramente se vio muy bonito en sus inicios, pero como todo en esta vida, necesita algo de mantenimiento; el paseo por la mayoría de sus senderos, así despacito, lo hicimos despacio en alrededor de dos horas, escuchando el canto de las aves y otros animalitos que se ven por ahí (ardillas), pero hay un recorrido mas corto que se hace en...
