Rousse Tower is a historic landmark located on Rousse headland in Guernsey. It is one of 15 loophole towers built between August 1778 and March 1779 to defend the island against potential French attacks during the American Revolutionary War as Guernsey sided with Great Britain.
This fully restored loop-holed tower stands 30 feet (9 meters) tall with an external diameter of 20 feet (6 meters) and an internal diameter of just over 12 feet (3.7 meters). It is made of Guernsey granite.
Originally designed to accommodate only muskets through loopholes that allowed defensive fire in all directions, the tower was later modified during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1803, its roof was strengthened and it received a 12-pounder carronade as additional armament
This history sure has now relics cannons outside overlooking the shoreline and surrounding sea.
