Hey Guys and Gals,
Just finished spending the day in Labadee, Haiti and thought I could give a few thoughts.
We are on Royal Carribean Wonder of the Seas which is at about 75% capacity with 5300 or so guest they said.
We got to the area about 9:30 - 10 am. The beach areas were not crowded at all with plenty of lounge chairs and palm trees.
We stopped at one of the first beach areas along the north shore on Adrenaline Beach, #19 on the map. We laid down our towels and stuff and went for a walk when we found a much better area further along Adrenaline Beach toward #40 on the map.
The reason this is better as it has a paying bar in the water but it also has 5 or 6 shaded palm tree type structures out in the water so you can wade out in the water and still be in and out of the sun. This was very enjoyable. Water depth varied form waist to neckline in areas.
This location is also good if you have a snorkel set and want to float around the rock jetty and look at a couple same fish. Just waking around we were able to look down and saw a possible blue and yellow tang and a different yellow fish.
Lunch was close by and we were in the shade of our umbrella and palm tree most of the day. On the way back to the boat we took the long way to Cumbus Cove, Nellie's Beach, and Barefoot beach. This time of the day was about 2pm and it was getting really hot. This side of the island did not have any shade areas out in the water.
We walked to #16 on the map, the Barefoot tram station. We boarded a tram headed further into the island. After one stop at the Town Square tram station (#26k) at the end we returned toward the boat. There were a lot of people attempting to get on the tram at Town Square
Side note. If you are crusing here along the same path, a starboard cabin would be best to get all of the views while docked at Labadee and on the way to San Juan.
This is a quick look. I will edit this more after the...
Read moreRoyal Caribbean's private resort is amazing! So, onto to travel tips: arrive early and get you and your party some chairs. If you come early you can take your time to find the perfect spot to enjoy the day. Pack what you need for the day which is a towel, sunscreen and some cash for shopping. I found the resort food to be pretty good. There serve the usual hot dogs and hamburgers, but try the chicken and their special flavored cole slaw. Your drink packages are the same as if you were on the ship so don't worry there. Explore the resort and if you do understand that it is BIG. When you visit the shopping area from the locals be prepared to be harangued ad nauseam. The shops we bought from were run by the Haitian women who are sweet, kind and non confrontational. The best place to shop in peace is the market building. The dancers and entertainment are amazing and should be appreciated by tipping or by giving them a smile. It is a super cool place to visit and I look foward to coming back and...
Read moreThis is a wonderful destination, and you should take advantage of this port. We went in October of 2024 as an alternate to avoid a hurricane.
First, Safety. Some people were concerned about being in Haiti with recent news. I never felt in danger at all. This is a Royal Caribbean private compound, sealed away from the rest of the island with armed guards hundreds of miles away from Port-au-Prince (where the worst of the violence is)
Second, I highly recommend the walking tour, it's by a couple of local Haitian guides who will take you to some places you wouldn't think to go. Very excellent.
Third. I regretfully dinged them a star for the shopping district that's tucked away from the main path. Beware, they are super, super pushy. Haggling is normal outside the US, but here you can't just calmly look without being pushed on. Stick to the main mart on the path for souvineers instead.
Next time I go, I really want to do their zip lines and...
