The Tihanyi Bencés Apátság is a true jewel of Hungarian architecture and history. The abbey, which was founded in the 11th century, impresses not only with its majestic location with breathtaking views of Lake Balaton, but also with its fascinating baroque details and artistic frescoes in the interior. The impressive church with its distinctive twin towers is particularly noteworthy. The historical tour offers interesting insights into the Benedictine tradition and monastic life. The atmosphere is peaceful and invites you to linger, while the surrounding nature invites you to take walks. A visit to Tihany Abbey is not only culturally enriching, but also a feast for the eyes - absolutely recommended for every traveler in the region!

Want to escape the busy city life in Budapest? Need to relax? Come and take a stroll down by the monastery and rest your weary eyes on the beautiful views of the Balaton. If you stroll down the path you will find many places to eat and there is even an icecream shop. If you continue further down you will come across the echo statue where you can see if you are loud enough to produce an echo. Further down is the echo restaurant which allows you to take in the beautiful views while dining or sipping a delicious draft lavender beer. A good place to unwind and relax, or simply explore. Note: If you venture left where the echo statue is you will come across three crosses.

The jewel of not only Hungary, but all of Central Europe. Founded in 1055, the abbey has seen a lot of turbulent and peaceful history. What makes this abbey so unbelievable is its dramatic setting, perched atop a vista that looks all over Lake Balaton. Perhaps, this is one of the most beautiful sites I’ve seen in all of Europe. At least, one of the most breathtaking. In addition, Tihany is known for its lavender products as there are lavender fields everywhere. They even sell lavender Gin! (And lavender tonic).

Fair warning to those on cycling around the lake: the road to the church IS EXACTLY AS STEEP as you think it is from the bottom. Also no real bike lane. Yikes! That said, not to be missed. One of the best views of the northern part of the lake from the top. The church itself is maybe worth seeing because of its historical significance and, you know, because you're there.

One of the oldest still-existing (benedictean) monasteries of Hungary and also the burisl place of the fourth king Andreas I. You can visit both the church and the monastery (that has a hidtorical exhibition), and in the visitors' centre you can also buy products of the benedict monks such as herbal infusions, liqours, soaps, lacander products.

Good day out visiting the Abbey and the echo. Spectacular views across the Balaton. The Abbey itself is worth going in to and they have made an effort to create an exhibition in the cellars. Lots of nice looking restaurants close by and street food in the Centrum. Take the little road train up and walk back to the ferry.
