I arrived at 4:30 p.m., and the receptionist didn’t speak English. She gestured for me to take a circular walk on the second level. I was impressed by the quality of the artifacts and their intriguing captions.
However, things soon became unsettling. After about half an hour, another visitor started following me. I tried using Google Translate to communicate, but he refused to use it or speak English. Feeling uncomfortable, I returned to the first level. The receptionist then handed me an English brochure and gestured for me to explore that floor. I felt better and tried to focus on the artifacts, but she started staring at me, which made me uneasy, so I left quickly.
Suggestions for the museum staff: If privacy concerns prevent the use of voice translation, at least texting via Google Translate would help clarify situations. Leaving visitors in the dark can create unnecessary discomfort.
The museum’s closing time was 6 p.m., and I left at 5:30 p.m., so I’m unsure what the issue was. Perhaps they were worried I might mishandle the artifacts as a foreigner? There could be countless explanations, but I wish they had communicated with me. I don’t want to assume xenophobia, especially since I noticed other Hungarian tourists leaving quickly as well.
Overall, it was an unpleasant experience, but it doesn't reflect my time in Hungary as a whole, which has been welcoming. People here have generally shown curiosity in a kind way.

Die ständige Ausstellung des Museums präsentiert die Geschichte der Stadt und ihrer Umgebung mit Schwerpunkt Bronzezeit und Römische Zeit.
