Restaurant review:
The restaurant at Hali Country Hotel offers a rather average dining experience, housed in a multi-purpose space that functions as a reception area, art gallery, and dining room all in one. While the building itself is charming from the outside, the dining space feels more functional than atmospheric. A second adjoining dining area near the museum appears more inviting but wasn’t in use during our visit.
The lamb soup — more accurately described as a lamb stew with chunks of carrots and potatoes — was hearty and reasonably good, though not exceptional. It was served with three slices of Icelandic bread containing nuts, paired with unsalted butter, which made for a somewhat bland accompaniment.
The cod platter, though nicely lit in the display, lacked imagination in both presentation and flavor. It was served without sauce or seasoning and required generous salting to bring out any taste.
Service was average, with no particular warmth or attentiveness to note. Prices were higher than one might expect for the quality and style of the meal. On a positive note, complimentary water was provided.
Overall, while the location and concept have potential, the restaurant falls short in execution — a passable option if you’re staying nearby, but not a...
Read moreDecided to come eat here after long trip. I ordered meatballs (3200nok) and my friend took mince patties(3500nok) which was "pork and beef Patty" on the list or something like that. Definitely was not worth the cost, patties were hard and looked like straight from the freezer. Meatballs were the same, except maby with more seasoning. Only good looking dish I saw, was a fish. They really could've made the food way better by making it from the fresh ingredients and not make it look and taste like a gas station food. Everything was just too bland and too much of a mess. Fix this and you could have a...
Read moreThis cultural center is dedicated to the Icelandic author, complete with a museum and restaurant. It came up as a place that I wanted to visit because of the very cool building with a set of books built into one wall that faces the road. We had a very tssty lunch in the restaurant; I had the Icelandic lamb soup served with bread and butter. It was a very comforting meal for a colder day. After lunch, we walked through the exhibit and learned about the man this center was named for. Overall, a great stop for...
